💧 Did you know? The Clean Water State Revolving Fund has been supporting wastewater treatment since 1987 with low-interest loans, helping utilities expand systems and repair aging infrastructure. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, an additional $12.7B is flowing into the CWSRF through 2026 - sparking growing interest in using these funds for green stormwater infrastructure (#GSI) projects. 🌱 Historically, GSI has been a small slice of CWSRF spending, but with this new funding, there’s potential to reshape priorities for a greener, more sustainable future. 🌎 Check out this latest blog by Peter Hill Hill to learn more! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eyKxZDab #GSISponsorshipPrograms #WaterInfrastructure #GreenSolutions

So exciting to see a real world example of how technology can drive faster processing times for environmental permits! #restoration #permitting
Amongst the dozens of policy and tech efforts we’ve tracked, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's #Permitting Enhancement and Evaluation Platform is a gold star example of the potential of technology to dramatically shorten #environmentalpermit backlogs. In two short years, DEQ went from piloting the system to improving processing times by 70%. Check out our #casestudy on the project: https://lnkd.in/dTs5mdtd. 📰 Check out this recent article by the The New York Times! 📰 Our Executive Director, Timothy Male, was able to share his perspective into potential areas of action the Trump administration can take on #Biodiversity and #EndangeredSpecies. While it’s possible the Trump administration might enact changes that produce procedural improvements, without much real effect on wildlife, what they are seriously lacking are new ideas and approaches to benefit biodiversity. And to make a real, positive difference - we need creative and innovative action. Find the full article and further insights here 👉 https://lnkd.in/e-aYFmzy

🎙️ Be sure to tune in to the latest waterloop podcast featuring our Executive Director, Timothy Male! 🎙️ Throughout this episode, Tim shares his insights on water infrastructure funds, earmarks, lead service line replacement, and the election. It’s a conversation you won’t want to miss! 💧
The federal government's historic investment in water infrastructure has presented both opportunities and challenges. The solution lies in efficiently distributing funds, overcoming barriers like permitting and regulatory requirements, and accelerating the pace of project implementation. In this episode, Timothy Male, Executive Director of the Environmental Policy Innovation Center, discusses the complexities of rolling out billions in federal funding and the hurdles still in place. He highlights the need for technical assistance, environmental finance centers, and better systems to ensure long-term success. Topics also include the urgency of lead pipe replacement, regionalization of utilities, and leveraging nature-based solutions for watershed management. This episode is from a conversation at the Reservoir Center for Water Solutions in Washington, D.C., where waterloop is a media partner.

💧 We're thrilled Jessica Lamb, our Assistant Director for Water Communications & Operations, was able to attend what is clearly such a meaningful and impactful experience! We're excited to see how she applies what she's learned both within and outside EPIC. We're also excited to continue collaborating with our partners at the City of Mount Vernon to create positive change in our communities! 💧 Thank you for putting this together Rogue Water Lab! We look forward to next year. #Water #WaterCommunications #2024CatalystExperience
🦩 One week later and I’m still thinking about the #2024CatalystExperience! 🦩 I’m so grateful that I was able to attend on behalf of the Environmental Policy Innovation Center, and that we were able to support our community partner from the City of Mount Vernon to join too. Connecting with Monica Hughes and learning more about their incredible work has been inspiring - and I can’t wait to collaborate together even more. On my very first day a few months ago, Maureen Cunningham forwarded me the information for Catalyst and asked if I wanted to attend. I didn’t know it then, but that email would have such a profound impact on me. Communication has always been my passion, but I’m new to the water industry. Throughout the experience I kept saying, “I’m so excited to be around the experts! I can’t wait to learn!” completely forgetting that I can also meaningfully contribute to the work we do. Catalyst helped me discover my own relationship with water and why that matters. We are all connected to water, to this industry, to the work that goes into providing equitable access to safe, reliable, and affordable water for everyone. And we should all be talking about it. Part of this experience involves committing to something that we want to be held accountable for doing. I want to tell more stories. I want to hear what water means to people, how their work contributes to this industry, and why people should be invested in this - and I want to share these stories with the world. (Big S/O to Jeff Biberdorf💧 and Eric Benninghoff for holding me accountable to this - can’t wait to keep you in the loop!) I also want to say thank you to Chelsea Boozer, MPA and Greg Wukasch for creating such a fun and impactful experience! “There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination.” ✨ Environmental Policy Innovation Center, Timothy Male, Maureen Cunningham

My colleagues and I just released this new Working Paper titled "Building a Thriving Biodiversity Credit Market". We think you'll find it helpful to understand what credits are and why they're useful for compensating impact to nature, and creating the right incentive to avoid the impact in the first place. And best of all, we already know how to do it given the years of experience in similar markets. Take a look!
