📰 More training opportunities 🏛️ : Version 3 of the EO AFRICA R&D Facility MOOC on Drought Assessment and Monitoring from Space is launched 🚀 !! This #MOOC provides an introduction to #droughts, and answers questions on how it can be quantified, and how it can be assessed and monitored from space 📡 🛰️ . The role of #CloudComputing and (easy) access to satellite data will also get attention. No prior knowledge of Earth Observation (#EO) is required. The MOOC provides a “smooth” introduction for agricultural scientists, water resources specialists and others who are interested in #water and #foodsecurity and the role EO plays nowadays related to this theme. More information and registrations at: https://lnkd.in/e-UxvXkq Topics: ✔️ Vegetation and Drought Monitoring from Space ✔️ Copernicus Programme ✔️ Jupyter notebooks and Cloud Computing ✔️ EO software tools ✔️ EO for vegetation and drought monitoring ✔️ Observing the Water Cycle from Space ✔️ Monitoring Vegetation Dynamics from Space ✔️ Evapotranspiration from Space ✔️ Soil Moisture Dynamics from Space ✔️ Crop Monitoring and Yield Estimation from Space #EO4Society - European Space Agency - ESA - AfricanUnion

📣New EO AFRICA R&D Facility Webinar: Join Ruben Van De Kerchove from VITO Remote Sensing on the topic: "𝘔𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘢" https://lnkd.in/eKmdjk-H 📅 February 5, 14h00 CET The availability of #Copernicus #Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite 🛰️ data has revolutionized the field of land cover monitoring, enabling high-resolution observations at unprecedented scales. These advanced Earth Observation (#EO) technologies now facilitate detailed analysis of #LandUse and #LandCover changes, providing insights into the dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems 🌍 This #webinar explores how these innovations, coupled with emerging datasets and services, are being utilized to monitor global land cover and #LandDegradation, supporting #sustainabledevelopment and environmental conservation. Specifically, the webinar will delve into experiences of producing the 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐭 dataset (available for 2015–2019), the European Space Agency - ESA (ESA) #WorldCover Project, which has further advanced land cover monitoring by producing 10m resolution global land cover maps, and the new Copernicus Land Cover and Tropical Forest Monitoring Service (#LCFM), designed to provide dynamic, high-resolution datasets on the status and changes of global land cover and pan-tropical forests.

Last month, the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente hosted the winners of the #EOAFRICA call for proposals: "African-led Training Material Design" https://lnkd.in/eXsJurZg The selected African academics collaborated with educators from the EO AFRICA R&D Facility consortium during a productive kick-off workshop. Together, they exchanged valuable insights on the proposed modules and established a strong foundation for the projects by leveraging their shared expertise. We are eager to see the final results, which will significantly enhance the curricula in #EarthObservations 🛰️ offered by the participating universities 👨🏽💻 👩🏽🏫 European Space Agency - ESA African Union Commission #EOAFRICA #EO #UniversityCurricula Addis Ababa University - Garissa University - Nnamdi Azikiwe University Université Nationale des Sciences, Technologies, Ingénierie et Mathématiques (UNSTIM Abomey) #UniversityofDouala
