Spotlight on Erica Alston: Leading Community Wellbeing at Exodus We’re excited to shine a light on Erica Alston, our new Community Wellbeing Coordinator at Exodus Transitional Community. With unwavering energy and a deep commitment to health, wellness, and self-care, Erica is driving transformative initiatives that are empowering our community. Backed by major grants from CTI, Fidelis Care, and United Way, Erica is spearheading impactful projects that include psychoeducational groups, accessible health screenings, and “Lunch and Learn” workshops. Her work addresses critical health topics like kidney disease, high blood pressure, and cancer—bringing resources and preventative care to those who need it most. 📅 Upcoming Lunch and Learns December 18: Kidney Health at Johnson Houses December 19: Self-Care at the Wellness Clinic She’s also launched monthly health screenings to provide free, vital health information to the community, ensuring access to care and knowledge to lead healthier lives. Advocating for Caregivers Recognizing the toll social service work takes, Erica is developing a Wellness Room for staff, equipped with aromatherapy, sound meditation, and other sensory tools to combat burnout. Her vision: embed self-care into the workday, making it a necessity, not an afterthought. Mindfulness at Rikers Island Through her volunteer work with Boundless Freedom, Erica introduces mindfulness and grounding techniques to incarcerated individuals, offering a much-needed space for calm and reflection. Looking Ahead Erica’s vision is clear: expand programs, increase resources, and foster consistent support for community members and caregivers alike. Her work is a testament to the power of education, compassion, and holistic care. Let’s celebrate Erica’s incredible work and support her mission to build a healthier, more connected community. 💙 Erica Alston

🚲 Excited & humbled to be opening the application and referral process soon for our Bike Mechanic Training & Employment Program for Formerly Incarcerated individuals (Bike Path) here at Bike New York. We have truly come a long way! 🔧 In 2024, 45 people graduated and went on to be hired as full-time seasonal bike mechanics earning $25.25/hr at Motivate LLC maintaining the vast Citi Bike fleets across NYC. We are seeing retention rates rise to 75%, promotions, and much more! 🚲 Micro-mobility & bike-share systems are booming in the United States. We are pleased to create a workforce development program transforming lives and communities by providing opportunities into this expanding industry. 🫶🏽 Thanks to our referral organizations from this past year: Hour Children, Inc. The Fortune Society, The HOPE Program, The Fedcap Group, Exodus Transitional Community, Inc. Bard Prison Initiative, St. Nicks Alliance, Housing Works and NYC Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice. Big thanks to the team at Motivate LLC for continuing to partner on this amazing program. Colleen Cunningham, Allison Abbott, Greta Jones Patrick Knoth
