Electrification of Vehicles in Norway: Transforming the Independent Aftermarket Earlier this week I had the opportunity to participate in the FAAS -Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability Sustainability Day in Stockholm where vehicle aftermarket professionals came together to discuss sustainability in our industry. Electrification of our car fleet might have slowed down, but it will happen. How does this impact the aftermarket? Anders Oxelström from MEKO shared their learnings from Norway. Norway has been at the forefront of the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, with an impressive 82% of new car sales being electric. This rapid adoption of EVs has brought about significant changes and opportunities in the independent aftermarket.   My key takeaways: 🧿 Increased Wear and Tear on Non-High Voltage Parts: EVs, due to their weight and power, experience more wear on tires, suspension, and steering components. This has led to a higher demand for these parts in the aftermarket. 🧿 Brake System Challenges: Unlike traditional vehicles, EVs use regenerative braking, which reduces the use of brake pads but can lead to rust and other issues with brake discs. This has created a new niche for brake system repairs. 🧿 Battery Repairs and Innovations: The battery is a critical and expensive component of EVs. New players in the market are focusing on repairing and refurbishing batteries, addressing one of the most significant concerns for EV owners. 🧿 Technician Training and Certification: With the rise of EVs, there is a growing need for specialized training for technicians. Programs like the A+ certification ensure that workshops are equipped to handle the complexities of EV repairs. 🧿 Digital Solutions and Customer Expectations: EV owners often have different expectations, including seamless digital interactions for booking and service. The aftermarket is evolving to meet these demands with enhanced digital solutions. 🧿 Stable Demand Despite Economic Fluctuations: The need for vehicle repairs remains relatively stable, even during economic downturns. As EVs age and warranties expire, the independent aftermarket is poised to play a crucial role in maintaining these vehicles. The journey of electrification in Norway offers valuable insights for the global market. As we continue to embrace sustainable mobility, the independent aftermarket must adapt and innovate to meet the evolving needs of EV owners. Thanks for a great presentation and for sharing Anders. Many thanks also to all people involved at FAAS -Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability, CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers, FIGIEFA - Automotive Aftermarket Distributors and at MEKO that did a great job bringing us all together. #ElectricVehicles #Sustainability #Aftermarket #Innovation #Norway

🚗🛠️🚘🚚A chance to connect and network with top industry leaders in the automotive aftermarket sector. 🚘🚚 ATR International AG’s Jonas Pfleiderer and Alexander Sommer participated in the second edition of the FAAS -Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability Sustainability Days, to hear from and discuss with industry representatives, experts and stakeholders, on how the automotive aftermarket industry is evolving. Also discussed were insights and guidance on upcoming challenges and solutions in the path towards a more sustainable and accountable aftermarket. The FAAS Sustainability Days, organized by the Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability (FAAS), took place on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 November 2024 in Stockholm. The conference concluded with a visit to LKQ Europe Atracco, LKQ's vehicle dismantling facility in Uppsala on 28. November. Achieving a sustainable and resilient automotive aftermarket demands a comprehensive strategy that encompasses environmental, economic, social, and technological dimensions while upholding regulatory standards and ensuring customer contentment. Membership in FAAS and the participation at conferences like this are of high importance to ATR. #ATR #WeAreATR #FAAS #Sustainability #FAASSustainabilityDay

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗠𝗘𝗞𝗢 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 (𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗧𝘄𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁) This question sometimes arises: Will repair and service still be needed when all vehicles are electric?   As the author Mark Twain once said, "It’s difficult to make predictions, especially about the future."   However, our experiences in Norway – the world’s most electrified country – have given us concrete insights into what might lie ahead.   Electrification began in Norway in the 1990s and gained momentum in the mid-2010s. Today, nearly 9 out of 10 new cars sold in Norway are electric. We have had operations in Norway for many years and have experienced this development in real time.   So, what have we observed in our Norwegian workshops? Here are some conclusions:   ➖ Increased wear and tear on critical components compared to traditional vehicles, including brakes, tires, axles, suspension, and steering. ➖ More complex repairs requiring advanced expertise, and more hours in the workshop. ➖ Batteries – crucial for an EV’s value – demand service, and new players are entering the market offering these services.   Three indications of the future auto aftermarket business:   ✅ Repairs of EVs seem to be less frequent but more costly – yet still worthwhile for car owners. ✅ Investments and entrepreneurship in the aftermarket are essential to meet new demands. ✅ EVs must remain repairable – a critical requirement for legislators in the EU and beyond. In sum: The development in Norway so far indicates that the aftermarket business could be as significant as before, ultimately benefiting all car owners.   While this transformation is still in its early stages, with some bumps in the road, we believe it’s progressing. At MEKO, we are investing in education, equipment, and new partnerships to meet the development in Norway and to be prepared for continued progress elsewhere.   The secret of getting ahead is getting started, as Mark Twain put it.   It was inspiring to discuss this topic at the FAAS -Forum on Automotive Aftermarket Sustainability conference in Stockholm, where my brilliant colleague at MEKO, Louise Wohrne, Head of Sustainability, is Chairwoman. Thank you for hosting! ⭐
