News and opinion from the front line of the fight for the right to repair our stuff!
About us
In a world that is increasingly populated by smart, Internet connected and software driven "stuff," your rights of ownership - including the right and ability to service and maintain your own property - are in jeopardy. Even as the world moves to embrace "circular economy" principles that minimize waste and maximize reuse, repair and recycling, large, powerful corporations and corporate interests are pushing in the opposite direction: using expansive arguments about copyright and intellectual property to push small businesses out of existence and build software-enforced monopolies over service, parts and repair. But people are fighting back. Fight to Repair covers the grassroots battle to be able to fix our own stuff and - in the process - empower consumers, small businesses, the marketplace and the planet. Hakko was in turn subject to an inquiry by California’s Attorney General over its compliance with the state’s newly enacted right to repair law that has started to make more repair information available to customers, according to the independent repair shop owner who filed the complaint. Rhine owns Rhine Labs, a Washington-based shop that repairs control boards for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines like mills, lathes, elevators and other equipment owned by small businesses. He counts a number of California firms among his customers and HAKKO soldering stations are an important part of his business operation... Read more at https://lnkd.in/erJjCDVd #tech #righttorepair
