🌍 Global leader in obstetric fistula treatment, healing women across Africa and Asia 🧡 $619 can end needless suffering
About us
One million women in low-income countries needlessly suffer from obstetric fistula—a childbirth injury that causes incontinence—because they cannot access the surgery that can cure them. We provide high-quality treatment to these women, serving as an essential bridge between women who suffer needlessly and selfless people who want to help them. Across that bridge flow resources to doctors who perform life-transforming surgery and to outreach workers who connect women with the treatment that they deserve. Since 2009, we have provided more than 90,000 surgeries to women in 35 countries across sub-Saharan Africa and Asia by funding more than 140 hospital partners and community organizations. Today, we are the global leader in obstetric fistula treatment. Rating organizations consistently award us top honors for efficiency, impact, and innovation. Learn more: www.fistulafoundation.org

We’re thrilled to share that Nick Kristof appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe to discuss the 2024 Kristof Impact Initiative! 🎉 During the interview, Kristof highlighted Fistula Foundation, saying, “I’ve rarely seen somebody as joyous as one of these women or girls when they’ve had that surgery.” When asked about his criteria for selecting organizations for the Kristof Impact Prize, he explained that he focuses on causes with tremendous impact at an affordable cost—and Fistula Foundation delivers. Just $619 provides one woman with life-transforming surgery. Check out our website to watch the full segment and learn more! 🌟 https://bit.ly/3Z7VTpa

Can you imagine leaking urine uncontrollably for 30 years? What would you smell like? How would you carry yourself? Where would you go? Women who suffer from obstetric fistula face discrimination, stigma, and shame. But their lives can be changed forever by a single surgery that costs, on average, $619. For women who have endured so much suffering, it feels like a miracle. We’re grateful to be selected as a Nick Kristof Kristof Impact Initiative prize winner, which celebrates organizations working to make the world a better place. Since 2009, we have delivered more than 100,000 life-transforming surgeries at nearly 200 sites in 35 countries across Africa and Asia. No other organization brings healing to more women who suffer from devastating childbirth injuries. We fund more fistula repair surgeries across more countries than any other organization, including the United Nations and the U.S. government. Today, we hit a major milestone. We officially passed the 100,000 mark in the number of surgeries that we’ve provided since 2009! 🎉 Trying to imagine how momentous that is? We could fill the entire Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena, California, with all of the women who’ve received free surgeries. 🌹 This six-figure landmark reinforces the Foundation’s legacy of delivering life-changing transformations to tens of thousands of women who would otherwise still be suffering. 🧡 Thanks to our dedicated partners and compassionate donors, these women have been given a new life and the chance to start anew. 👭🏾

Thank you, Women And Development Against Distress In Africa. WADADIA, for providing our team with a warm welcome last week! It is an honor to collaborate with you in transforming the lives of women who have suffered from fistula.
Women Found and Led Non-Profit organization that empowers marginalized women and girls to advocate for their bio-psychosocial health and socio-economic rights.
A Day of Gratitude Yesterday, we had the immense honor of welcoming the Fistula Foundation team to WADADIA! Their visit was met with warmth and electronic songs and dances from the fistula survivors that had everyone showcasing their incredible moves. We're grateful for the opportunity to share our story with the Fistula Foundation team. Our Lead Director Ms. Habiba C N Mohamed and Project Manager Omar Abu Hasniyya took them on a journey through WADADIA's history, dialing into all our programs, and then narrowed down our fistula programming, tackling the milestones, and future plans. During their visit, the team interacted with our dedicated male involvement teams and beneficiaries during support group meetings and home visits. They witnessed firsthand the transformative power of free repairs and our comprehensive rehabilitation and reintegration program through the inspiring stories of Caroline and Beatrice. We're proud to say that our partnership is changing lives! Together, we're providing free fistula repairs and vocational skills training to women in need. We're breaking barriers and building brighter futures! Thank you, Fistula Foundation, for your continued support. Your collaboration is making a real difference in the lives of countless women. #CommunityFirst #FistulaFoundation #WADADIA #EmpoweringWomen #PartnershipGoals #HealthcareForAll #EndFistula #RestoreDignity #EndFistula #womeninspiringwomen #restorehope #WADADIANonProfit #womeninleadership

Happy #DAFDay! 💸 Wondering what a DAF is? A DAF (donor-advised fund) is a tax-advantaged charitable giving account. Gil L'italien has generously donated to Fistula Foundation since 2011. A few years ago, he decided to set up a DAF. This method of giving provides Gil with an efficient way to contribute to organizations he finds impactful, and offers him favorable tax benefits. Here’s what he had to say about us: 🗣️ “When you donate to Fistula Foundation, and divide your contribution by the cost of the procedure, you know precisely how many women you’ve helped.” 🗣️ “This is a charity that makes full use of its donations, because the bulk of expenditures contributes directly to doing good.” 🗣️ “Your contribution will allow women to get surgery and rejoin their communities, so you are also transforming the lives of her family members and future generations.” Learn more on our website about how to recommend a DAF to Fistula Foundation: https://bit.ly/3zHfXWY

We're incredibly grateful to Julia (Ferguson) Yetter for featuring us on her wedding registry! Julia and her husband Chris chose to empower their friends and family to support their favorite charities. In addition to her wedding registry, Julia set up a peer-to-peer fundraiser for Fistula Foundation. Her donation was matched twice, thanks to the generosity of her employer, Goldman Sachs, and a challenge match campaign that was running at the time, amplifying Julia's impact for women in need.
I'd like to highlight Fistula Foundation’s amazing work across Africa and the developing world. FF provides life-changing surgery to women suffering from obstetric fistula (a debilitating childbirth injury). In fact, they are so efficient and metrics-oriented that they can say exactly the cost, $619, to completely cure a woman in need. To me, such a direct and impactful non-profit is rare to come by and I'm happy to be their supporter and cheerleader. If you'd like to learn more please contact me!
