Data storytelling for the web

About us

Flow is a SaaS authoring tool to create data stories for the metaverse. We provide tools to create 3D data visualizations to change the world by more effectively communicating to leaders and the public using data. We are excited to help our customers to drive more and better data-driven decisions, as well as to help entertain and educate the public. Our use cases in Public Policy and work for the UNDP and World Bank are important to one of our driving philosophies: We have to make better data-driven decisions in Enterprise and Government to solve the world's greatest challenges. It seems we have found a 'hole in the universe' as a data storytelling tool. The unique problem we solve is that data is hard to present well, and data analytics and visualization tools have been focused on the analyst and scientist end-user, instead of on the large audience of data consumers. How can we engage our audiences to make better data-driven decisions? How can we make data exciting, especially in Zoomed-out times of COVID? PowerPoint dumbs down everything, and then we wonder why decisions are made without an understanding of both the details and the big-picture context. XR is an important part of the puzzle, but not the most important part: more important is solving a problem, and then XR is the most powerful experience, but not required. Enterprise needs to be practical and we 'lead the horse to water, not dunk its head in." The solution can't be just using more data in PowerPoint on Zoom, because it lacks interactivity and context. Nor XR with just avatars, because meaningful conversation content goes deeper than post-it notes and flat slides. Flow solves the problem by providing a meeting and content system for targeted use-cases, templatized for rapid creation, browser-based for ease-of-adoption across devices, with spatial computing for presence and intuitive interaction, using data and diagrams for data-driven decision-making.

The industry zeitgeist: my thoughts/feelings from #AES2024... There was a new energy around smart glasses and AR/passthrough that was palpable. The XR industry felt a bit down a year ago, but this year with Meta's RayBan smart glasses, the new HTC VIVE Focus Vision, and XREAL's continual improvements, I felt positivity and possibilities. AI will open many doors into XR! There were very many attendees that were already deep into successful XR projects in Digital Twins and Learning & Development. It was great to blow open minds to the different use cases that Flow Immersive brings with collaborative #datavisualization. And think of ways we can apply to twins and training.... It was amazing to be part of the Meta for Work booth in Dallas last week. Huge thank you to Rusti Baker and Jason Wilson! So many good people with enthusiasm throughout the show!

Quite a unique experience at my first VR panel Event! On Friday, I had the opportunity to participate in a panel event held entirely in VR. Joined by VR startups like Flow Immersive and Bodyswaps, we discussed the journey of building VR-focused businesses including SENTIO VR - kudos to Bidipta Roy & the amazing team at Rotman Commerce Emerging Technologies at the University of Toronto for pulling this off on Meta Horizon Worlds! Despite my decade-long experience in VR, this panel felt truly unique. Being an avatar on stage, sharing my thoughts with other panelists and students in VR, while others watched on a screen at UofT, felt strangely similar to a real-world event. The sense of presence, body language, and gestures allowed for a richer connection compared to Zoom calls where participants are reduced to thumbnails. While I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, one interesting takeaway was the disconnect between the avatars and reality—my avatar (pictured below 👇) didn’t quite feel like me, which can be a bit distracting. Key takeaway: VR panels will emerge as a fascinating new medium for hybrid events, and I can see this becoming a popular format for future conferences. As VR evolves to become more immersive and realistic, the sense of presence will only grow stronger, offering an excellent alternative to long-distance travel for meaningful engagement. However, improving avatar realism and graphics will be essential to further reduce the sense of disbelief and make these experiences truly immersive. Looking forward to seeing where this journey takes us next! 💡

  • Augmented reality is a great way to discuss climate data: it is so appropriate to see the data outdoors. Our hope is that it gains a sense of 'concreteness' and sticks the minds of the audience. It is great to see it in use at TF1, the largest news organization in France! Great work Yani!
