Planting trees. Together.

About us

Friends of Trees inspires people to improve the world around them through a simple solution: Planting trees. Together. We need trees more than ever. Heatwaves, flooding, and all of the increasingly catastrophic effects of climate change make it clear that every day needs to be the day for climate action. Since 1989 Friends of Trees has planted 975,000+ trees and native shrubs in neighborhoods and natural areas in six counties across two states. We’ve done this through engaging tens of thousands of community members, and while implementing and growing programming that aims to do this work inclusively and equitably. We plant trees, and so much more.

  • Friends of Trees will plant its monumental millionth tree* in this planting season, in April 2025! Our entire planting season—which is just getting started—will be a celebration of the impact of one million trees and native shrubs in our communities and natural areas, all planted by community volunteers. Our 1 Millionth Tree celebration will propel us into our next chapter of trees + community and get us started on the next million. We want your business to be a part of it!  🌳 This is an unprecedented, non-repeatable opportunity for Friends of Trees and our community. As part of this high-visibility, multifaceted campaign, we’ll have special events, storytelling, and additional promotional opportunities, above and beyond our already substantial suite of volunteer events, newsletters, social media content, and audience engagement. 🌳 Without the support of our business community, we wouldn't be able to bring people together to grow trees + community. To get involved in our Millionth Tree campaign, contact our Corporate & Business Relations Manager Sam Erman at SamE@FriendsofTrees.org.

Glad to be part of this tree planting last weekend with my boys. The weather was wonderful, shining down as volunteers, civic leaders, and families gathered to remember lives lost in the 2021 heat dome event, and to plant 72 trees in Nadaka park and at homes in surrounding East Portland communities. https://lnkd.in/gweX_8jU Volunteering at a planting with Friends of Trees is a great experience, highly recommend. You'll hear me talk more about trees nowadays, as I have joined the board to help with more than my shovel abilities. #portlandoregon #climatechange #friendsoftrees #plantsomething #buildingcommunity #volunteering #decarbonization
