  • HIV continues to have a disproportionate impact on trans and gender diverse people. Yet, #trans men and other assigned female at birth trans persons are still excluded by omission across the HIV response globally. On top of that, anti-gender movements have severely impacted the health of our communities. What do you feel are the barriers keeping organizations away from including these communities? 1. They don't know how to debunk myths with facts (they might not have good data on trans men & #HIV) 2. They struggle to address key issues faced by trans men in an effective way Whatever the challenge is, be aware of our useful resources to effectively include trans men in the HIV response: Policy Brief: https://lnkd.in/ekbb9rnq Factsheet:https://lnkd.in/e5iuc7H4 Recommendations to Tackle Anti-Gender Opposition Impacting the Health Rights of Trans and Gender Diverse Communities: https://lnkd.in/ey64S7h7

  • "70% of trans and gender diverse organizations operate with less than US$10.000 a year". They know how hard it is to fund in turbulent times such as the ones we are currently living in. It is time to explore #HIV #grantmaking strategies to advance health and #humanrights for all! If you are in Washington D.C, register to attend the 2025 Funders Concerned About AIDS Global Philanthropy Summit on 27 - 28 January 2025.

In the fight against HIV, marginalized communities face the greatest burdens and often receive the least support.    Funding with an intersectional approach is essential not only to end the epidemic, but also to build long-term power and well-being for these communities around the globe. FCAA’s Global Philanthropy Summit serves as a meeting ground for cross-sector leaders like GATE - Global Action for Trans Equality to come together as a collective force for change.    This January, we hope you’ll join hundreds of HIV-informed #funders and experts in Washington, D.C., to explore HIV #grantmaking strategies that advance health and human rights for all. • In the Bahamas, trans and gender diverse people are only allowed to change their name, not their gender or sex marker in their legal documents. In addition, they must undergo a deed poll and publicly announce their intention to change their name in the national official gazette. 📢 Although anyone can protest against these intentions, no one has legally opposed them, despite the increased levels of hate speech on social media against the community. During the meeting facilitated by Alexus D'Marco, Executive Director of United Caribbean Trans Network, we listened to trans youth reporting misgendering and discrimination at work, as well as lack of access to hormones and limited trans-competent providers. 🏳️⚧️ Despite all the hurdles, the trans and gender diverse community in the Bahamas is leading LGBTIQ+ rights activism, bringing expertise to the national #HIV response and engaging in innovative research on climate justice. 🌎 Find out more about our Thrive Consortium: https://lnkd.in/eTadrPH5

    • Lack of access to hormones and limited trans competent providers is a central challenge for trans people living in the Bahamas.

  • Secrecy around sexuality and gender diversity, as well as social discrimination, might be keeping trans and gender diverse people away from seeking life-saving HIV prevention and treatment services in the Bahamas. During the past week, GATE staff visited the Bahamas and learned from the United Caribbean Trans Network and The Bahamas AIDS Foundation about the major challenges trans and gender diverse people face regarding health access and the national HIV response. We need to find innovative intersectional ways to improve communities' knowledge and education on #HIV issues, as well as how to increase HIV prevention and treatment rates. We thank Alexus D'Marco and Arame Ford, the president of the Bahamas AIDS Foundation, for the opportunity to meet and foster future collaborations. We wish to better support regional and local organizations in addressing the needs of #trans and gender diverse communities in the Bahamas. • GATE staff visited the Bahamas AIDS Foundation and learned more about their needs and challenges in the region.
    • The Bahamas AIDS Foundation, collaboratively with United Caribbean Trans Network, are finding intersectional ways to improve HIV education, prevention and treatment.
  • Far-right, ultraconservative forces are threatening democracy, human rights, and progress on critical issues like #climatechange and #genderequality. This shift, fueled by economic hardships and voter dissatisfaction, exploits marginalized communities as scapegoats, such as trans and gender diverse communities, intensifying political polarization. We "need to propose new and better solutions instead of simply criticizing the solutions offered by the opposing side," states Levan Berianidze, GATE's Human Rights Lead.
