The Arnold P. Gold Foundation reposted this
During The Arnold P. Gold Foundation Gold Humanism Honor Society induction and Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine recognition ceremony at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine yesterday evening, inductees were asked what humanism meant to them and how they would incorporate it into their practice as future physicians. Amanda Onoichenco captured it powerfully: “Humanism means to me, to not only keep my patients alive, but to help them to live.” Thank you to President of the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and Gold Foundation Trustee Dr. Wayne J Riley, M.D., MPH, MBA, MACP, GHHS Chapter Advisors, Dr. Elka Dickman-Jacobson and Dr. Jeffrey Putman, and faculty inductees Dr. Carla Boutin-Foster and Dr. Hannah Brooks, and Leonard Tow honoree Dr. Isabel McFarlane for making humanism -- clinically excellent care that is kind, safe, and trustworthy -- a priority in education and practice.

Do you want patients in your hospital to feel seen? Would you love to connect more easily with your patients? The Gold Foundation's Tell Me More communications tool is a simple way to strengthen the human connection in healthcare. During Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care, Feb. 10-14, you can access a free 1-week license to use the tool in your hospital, school, or other patient care site. It's a special way to mark this week and have more meaningful conversations with patients. How does it work? - The Gold Foundation provides a Tell Me More 11x17 wall poster PDF file. We also provide a toolkit, including tips, a flyer for patients explaining Tell Me More, and an optional patient permission form. - A volunteer, student, or other healthcare team member sits down with a patient at a convenient time for them, after they have agree to participate. - Using the prompts on the wall poster, the care team member asks the patient to share what is meaning to them, and then adds information to the poster. - The poster is hung on the wall for everyone who cares for the patient to read about them and learn more about them, beyond their diagnosis. For example, a poster might say "Joe, grandfather of 7, loves beagles and the Yankees, high school gym teacher for 40 years, hates chocolate, wants you to have a great day, too." Imagine the conversations that might come up from knowing just a little more about Joe! Tell Me More licenses are also available year-round to Gold Partners Council members.
