This morning, I attended the official opening of La Trobe Rural Health School, La Trobe University’s new state-of-the-art nursing laboratories at the Albury-Wodonga campus. These impressive facilities double the campus’s capacity for nursing education in our region, with clinical laboratories built to hospital standards. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with Dr Yangama Jokwiro, Rhys Gloury, William Appleby, Kim White, Dr Guin Threlkeld, and Dr Heather Downey during the event. The vision shared by Vice-Chancellor Professor Theo Farrell and Professor Jane Mills for advancing regional healthcare education is truly inspiring. This project is a testament to La Trobe University’s commitment to health and wellbeing and its mission as a university for the public good. The new nursing laboratories align with the La Trobe Health Portfolio Innovation (HPI) Strategy, which aims to deliver an additional 4,000 healthcare professionals by 2030 - an essential step toward addressing the critical shortage of clinicians in Australia’s healthcare system. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this incredible initiative to life! #RegionalHealthcare #NursingEducation #LaTrobeUniversity #AlburyWodonga

💡Have you experienced confirmation? I mean true confirmation that the work you're doing matters? 👩🏾⚕️In 2019, my thesis paper to obtain my master's degree in nursing education talked about how to infuse cultural competence and diversity into nursing programs across the nation. 🔬Last night, I watched the documentary 'Everybody's Work: Healing What Hurts Us All' with DNPs of Color. The organization's annual conference is currently underway in Philadelphia, and they showed the documentary to kick off the three-day event. 🩺This documentary talked about the impact of racism within the field of nursing: the impact on patients, the profession, and most of all, the nurses who endure it. 📄We heard from nurses who are doing the work to bring implicit bias to the forefront. We got emotional as we heard our own stories within the documentary about being discouraged from pursuing continuing education because of prejudice. 🪶One quote I vividly remember was, 'Culture is our prevention.' ✅This is the reason why I do the work that I do. This is everyone's work to heal, and I am doing my part. I can't write everything here. A blog post is on the way for SURE, but this is confirmation that I'm not the only one passionate about this work. We are working together, and we will prevail! Want to make a difference? Start by educating yourself on implicit bias in healthcare. There are great resources available online. I have a short video about it posted in LinkedIn. Give it a watch 👉🏾https://lnkd.in/eGVAVqAi #NursingEquity #DiversityInHealthcare

Our recent collaborative paper with the University of Maryland School of Nursing and Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing found that the benefits of compassionate care visits during nursing home visitation restrictions far outweigh the risks. Grateful for the funding support from the University of Maryland Baltimore Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (UMB ICTR) and the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) that made this work possible. This article considers the necessary role of #implementation science in Doctorate of Nursing programs. Understanding these fundamentals is key to bridging the gap between research and practice.
This new JBIEI eBulletin article will interest Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Coordinators and Candidates. Ashley Brook Schaefer discusses her experience in a DNP that integrates #implementation science. The article considers the important role of quality improvement in a DNP curriculum, demonstrating how students can enhance patient outcomes through evidence implementation projects. By completing the JBI Evidence Implementation Training Program and engaging in evidence implementation projects, DNP students gain invaluable skills in applying evidence-based practices to influence change in clinical environments. https://lnkd.in/eTT_pg-F Michelle Palokas University of Mississippi Adam Cooper, DNP, RN, NPD-BC, EBP-C Rhoda Redulla,DNP, RN, NPD-BC, FAAN Jennifer Greenwood

Very important work being done to ensure that all states collect the same data on their nursing workforce, in order to enable state governments, researchers, and nursing associations to compare our nursing populations. I love the recommendations regarding the type of data states collect to better understand nursing workforce trends for key policy issues including average nurse age, nursing student loan debt, travel nursing, and much more. I dream about occupational therapy research leadership being able to do the same for occupational therapy.
Over the past few days I have had the privilege to attended the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers annual conference in San Diego, CA. I was honored to present with Dr. Carrie M. Oliveira and Dr. Crystal DeVance-Wilson on our work to revise the National Forum's supply MDS. Ensuring all states collect the same data on their nursing workforce enables state governments, researchers, and nursing associations to compare our nursing populations. We also recommended states collect specific data to better understand nursing workforce trends for key policy issues including average nurse age, nursing student loan debt, travel nursing, and much more.
