Guice Offshore (“GO”) was recently called upon to complete a very unusual and challenging mission with deep history that involved removing transatlantic telegraphic cable (pictured ⬇️ on deck) that was laid in the mid-1800s. The cleared cable will make way for new technology to replace it along the same seabed path. The first official transatlantic telegram in history was sent on the cable from England’s Queen Victoria in 1858 to congratulate then-U.S. President James Buchanan. A cross-section of the 175 year-old cable is shown here ⬇️ in the lower right-hand corner. #Offshore #Maritime #Vessel #MaritimeTransport #OffshoreEngineering #OffshoreWind #OilandGas

Kennedy (CVA-67) as the last conventionally powered aircraft carrier built by the U.S. Navy makes its final transit from the Navy’s Inactive Ships Maintenance Facility in #Philadelphia to Brownsville, Texas for dismantling. The Kennedy will depart during early morning, when it will be visible from the waterfronts along the #Delaware River, through the Delaware Bay and into the North Atlantic Ocean. Effective January 19, 2025, the #CoastGuard's National Maritime Center and Regional Examination Centers will only accept user fee payments made using Pay.gov. The change is designed to prepare for the Coast Guard's future acquisition of technology to replace the current Merchant Mariner Licensing and Documentation system. This new rule also makes changes to entries on certificates of discharge for mariners after completing a voyage to allow for electronic processing and record keeping.
