Thank you to all the expert speakers, facilitators and future leaders who attended the Receiving Communities Workshop!
On behalf of Adaptation Leader and our Founder & Chairman, Ira Feldman, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of our Receiving Communities Workshop last week at The George Washington University Law School. This event could not have been possible without the support of our co-sponsors and co-hosts, especially Randall Abate from GW Law's Environmental & Energy Law Program and Donna Attanasio from The George Washington University Alliance for a Sustainable Future. Special thanks to our keynote speakers, Hannah M. Teicher, who discussed the current state of play in receiving communities, and James R. May, who outlined the myriad constitutional issues at play as we explore various approaches to address these challenges. A shout-out to our fantastic facilitators—Keith Hirokawa, Joe Schilling, James R. May, Korkut Onaran, Scott Preston, and Josh Foster—who expertly guided us through the breakout sessions. We also thank all other speakers who enriched our dialogue, including those who participated in the "Future Leaders" panel: Fernando Muñoz Dominguez, Breanna Crossman, Jacob York, and Nidhi S.. We were also fortunate to have Environmental Law Institute Fellow Jeff Peterson join us and provide closing remarks to wrap up the day. We appreciate the contributions of our dedicated team to the "Towards a Research & Policy Agenda" paper. Your expertise is helping to shape a robust policy framework for receiving communities. To all our attendees, your active engagement and shared perspectives are the foundation of a strong community of practice. We invite everyone to read and comment on the draft "Towards a Research & Policy Agenda" paper, available here: https://lnkd.in/ebuHqRhV. Your feedback is vital as we advance this initiative. This workshop marks a significant milestone in Adaptation Leader's 18-month-long Receiving Communities Initiative. We look forward to continuing this journey with you, fostering innovation and collaboration to support this important work. Session recordings will be available soon. Stay tuned!
