The International Trade Group of the BMS ran a successful and informative Trade and Investment Forum at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority in Kuala Lumpur last week exploring the significant trade and investment opportunities between Malaysia and the UK. Attendees were drawn from Malaysian based business leaders and from international delegates who joined the BMS UK trade delegation. The Forum was hosted by Robin Stevens, Vice Chair BMS International Trade Group, Head of Capital Markets, MHA, Gavin Wilkins, BMS International Trade Group Member, Chief Commercial Officer Hawksford Group and David Stringer-Lamarre - Chair BMS International Trade Group. MD of Fortis Consulting London. Speakers covered the commercial, legal and taxation implications of trading and investing in Malaysia and in the UK, and an outline of recent capital markets activity and budget changes. MOU Exchange Title– Green hydrogen system development in Kampung Assum, Sarawak, integrates microhydro, solar, and green hydrogen for a sustainable, low-carbon economy On 10 June 2024 at the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen, H2Energy entered into a MOU with the Institute of Sustainable and Renewable Energy (ISuRE) and UNIMAS to develop a green hydrogen system for the village of Kampung Assum, Sarawak, integrating microhydro, solar, and green hydrogen energy towards advancing sustainable development. Supported by KPT's funding, the project pioneers low-carbon solutions and will be led by Prof Ts Dr Shanti Faridah Salleh, the Director of ISuRE and UNIMAS. The project aims to explore the effects of energy decentralization on rural communities and its impact on social, economy and quality of life of the affected communities. The project also aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with Sarawak’s sustainability goals. We were honoured to exchange the MOU documents in the presence of His Honourable the Premier of Sarawak. Honoured to receive the visit of the Premier of Sarawak, the Right Honourable Abang Johari to H2 Energy’s booth at Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen, Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching, Sarawak on 10 June 2024. His Honourable was accompanied by key Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials. With our heritage and origins rooted in Sarawak, we are proud to have launched a pilot project to provide 24/7 on-demand green power from a solar-hydrogen system (H2E System) to a government clinic in Long Loyang, Marudi - the first of its kind in Malaysia. Following that, our H2E System is currently being considered to power the Long Bedian village where, if successful, it will be the first village in Malaysia to be powered by green hydrogen, bringing high socioeconomic impact for the Telang Usang constituency, helping to drive the future green economy that is perfectly aligned with Sarawak’s Green Hydrogen aspirations. The Premier’s visit honours our endeavours and signals his commitment to fostering a climate of growth and prosperity for all through catalysing change, lending invaluable support to our mission and objectives.
