HFG is a leader in creating and disseminating knowledge on the nature, consequences and reduction of violence.
About us
The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation examines enduring and urgent problems of violence, such as war, crime, and human aggression. Through basic and applied research, we aim to understand the causes, manifestation, and control of violence. We spread this knowledge to inform policy, practice, and public discourse and to advance scholarship. The Foundation awards research grants to support distinguished and emerging scholars studying urgent matters of violence in the United States and around the world. We likewise conduct and commission original research and publish relevant research and policy reports. We host conferences, research seminars, and public conversations on topics of violence, often in collaboration with peers in academia, philanthropy, and civil society.

It’s a week for gratitude, and among those we’re grateful for is the late criminologist Richard Rosenfeld, a founding member and lead author of CCJ’s crime trends reports. At its annual conference earlier this month, the American Society of Criminology hosted a memorial event for Rick, featuring remembrances from CCJ staff members Ernesto Lopez, ABD, MPA and Thaddeus Johnson. This tribute, originally published in the fall 2024 issue of Translational Criminology, highlights Rick’s leadership, mentorship, and other contributions to the criminal justice field: https://lnkd.in/gAxDrw_j
