Congratulations to Laura Anderson who has excelled in her medical career earning the ROSE Award, as nominated by her fellow peers for her ownership, compassion and excellence. Laura started as a patient care tech (PCT) on 5 Central when she was submitted for this award. She has since worked hard to complete her Registered Nurse (RN) license and is now a nurse with 5 Central. Laura has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (overly flexible joints, fragile and easily bruised skin), which led her to follow her passion in nursing. We salute you Laura for showing us how to unlock possibilities! Congratulations to our ICU Nurse, Steven Kerlin, RN, on winning the *DAISY Award. Steve is one of many incredible nurses who started as a patient care tech (PCT) in ICU about 20 years ago. He made his transition to being a Registered Nurse (RN) and then to a clinical nurse coordinator (CNC) role. He has multiple advanced certifications in ICU/CVIC skills: (CRRT, IABP, Impella, ECMO) and currently holds 3 National Certifications: CCRN, CMC, CSC. Nicknamed "Capt. Chaos" by his teammates, Steve has three children, and his wife currently works in our hospital too! A "baseball dad" and avid golfer, we salute Steve for earning the DAISY Award for his leadership, ownership and compassion. *The DAISY Award is a national recognition program to celebrate and recognize nurses who go above and beyond. Nominations are made by patients, their families or co-workers. It is a way to thank nurses for the care and kindness they provide. Miracles do happen at hospitals and stroke survivor Tammie Seibert will tell you she experienced one thanks to neurointerventionalist Dr. Ravi Pande, who saved her life from not one, but two blood clots at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital. One of her clots was blocking 100% of blood flow in Tammie's carotid artery. Today, Tammie is full of life and was even selected to represent stroke survivors at this year's American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" event! Watch Tammie's inspiring story of survival and determination and please continue to encourage her to live life to the fullest every day.
