The National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health member, Dr. David Michaels, shared his thoughts with USA TODAY about how our health will be impacted as natural disasters become more frequent and severe. We’re proud of our Commissioners for shedding light on how our changing climate and public health are deeply connected. Here’s an excerpt from the article featuring Dr. Michaels’ insights: "Michaels said the United States needs to have a reckoning both about the risks and the causes of these urban firestorms. Employers, he said, must accept that workers cannot be forced back to their jobs while such high health risks remain, and society needs to come to terms with the reality that climate change is making such fires worse. "We haven’t recognized this as a national problem in the United States yet and we need to. Many of our nation's residents are having their lives disrupted and impacted by the climate crisis and we have a responsibility to take care of them," he said." Drawing on his expertise as a policymaker and physician, former Senator Bill Frist, M.D. offers a unique perspective on the intersection of climate and health. His thoughtful insights in the article below are exactly why we're proud to have him leading our efforts as co-chair of the National Commission on Climate and Workforce Health.
As a physician and policymaker, I believe we need to urgently recognize climate change for what it truly is—a public health crisis—and act accordingly. In my new Forbes article, I share how the health effects of climate change are immediate, widespread, and deeply inequitable. But solutions exist, and now is the time to come together to align our understanding of the health challenges and actively execute on those solutions before the problem grows beyond our reach. https://lnkd.in/ekBCtBfa #climate #climatechange #lawildfires #publichealth

🩺 2025 is a year for bold health leadership. The stakes — and the opportunities — are higher than ever. As national health priorities shift under a new presidential administration, business leaders are at a crossroads. Will they step back and risk rising costs, fractured trust, and operational disruptions? Or will they step up to lead on health, building trust, resilience, and long-term success? In our latest op-ed, Steven Levine and Stephen Massey, co-founders of Meteorite and the Health Action Alliance, lay out five principles for meaningful health leadership: 1️⃣ Build trust through truth: Counter misinformation with science-backed guidance. 2️⃣ Engage with empathy: Meet employees where they are with relatable health support. 3️⃣ Invest locally: Support community health where your business operates. 4️⃣ Forge strong partnerships: Collaborate with state and local health agencies. 5️⃣ Collaborate for collective impact: Join forces with other businesses to amplify change. Read the full op-ed to explore how businesses can drive lasting change in this critical moment: https://lnkd.in/gWCEwS7C Because when businesses lead on health, everyone wins.

Last week, leaders from across business, healthcare, and research came together in Florida to discuss critical issues affecting women’s health in the workplace. We tackled key topics like menopause care, navigating the healthcare system, and how employers can better support their workforce. It was inspiring to hear from experts and innovators on how we can build a more inclusive and informed approach to women’s health in the workplace, with a strong focus on providing clear, unbiased information, and creating comprehensive care solutions. As we prepare for the upcoming Women’s Health Initiative launch in 2025, we’re more motivated than ever to continue working together to drive change. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to all those continuing to make a difference in advancing women’s health research and workplace support.
