🎉 Congratulations to our member Topsoe who has been chosen as a technology provider and engineering partner for the Triskelion project, located in Galicia, Spain. The Triskelion project will produce 40,000 tons of e-Methanol annually, while capturing and using c. 56,000 tons of CO2. The e-Methanol is intended for applications in the shipping and chemicals industries. 🚢 🏭 When the project is in full operation, it will expectedly enable an annual emission avoidance of app. 860,000 tons of CO2e – the equivalent of avoiding the emissions of approximately 200.000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles driven for a year. Kim Hedegaard, CEO Power-to-X at Topsoe, stated: “We are excited to be selected as the technology provider for this promising project. e-Methanol will act as a key driver in decarbonizing the energy-intensive sectors and may be one of the leading e-fuels used in reducing carbon emissions in industries such as international shipping. Topsoe and Forestal del Atlántico have a shared ambition to make the Triskelion project a European leader in this space, and we look forward to working together to turning these ambitions into reality.” Find out more in the press release: https://lnkd.in/dYuZiu8K

🧩Robust GHG emissions assessment framework is the foundation of global supply chains for hydrogen and its derivatives. The Hydrogen Council was invited to share its expertise alongside Petra Schwager, Noelia Garcia Nebra, Gabriel Lassery, Laurent ANTONI and Maximilian Kūhn, PhD in a webinar organized by UNIDO and ISO - International Organization for Standardization on the Guide to 𝐈𝐒𝐎/𝐓𝐒 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟕𝟎. The Hydrogen Council welcomes this initiative aiming at making this standard more accessible to practitioners, industry professionals, and government stakeholders. Launched at COP28 as part of the inaugural Presidential Action Agenda for Hydrogen, ISO/TS 19870 is a milestone in international #collaboration on hydrogen standards development. It builds on years of collective work from dozens of experts around the world, grounded in scientific rigour and representing a hard-eared global consensus on the GHGe assessment of hydrogen on a life-cycle analysis basis. While countries across geographies may be pursuing different approaches to hydrogen deployment based on their national circumstances, we strongly believe in the necessity of a uniting foundation for governments and industry alike to help build transparency and unlock deployment at international level. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with ISO and UNIDO supporting the development of a suite of ISO standards covering hydrogen production, but also conditioning and conversion to hydrogen carriers and their transport to consumption gate, expected to be published in 2025 and 2026. Thank you for a productive EU Hydrogen Week! 💧 After ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi, and COP29 in Baku, the Hydrogen Council took its “Hydrogen Insights 2024” report and the COP29 Industry Call to Action to Brussels – the center of EU policy-making. Our team engaged in expert conversations and met with partners and members from around the world. We talked about the encouraging growth in global #hydrogen investment and project pipeline maturity, and also the significant challenges ahead, including macroeconomic headwinds, natural attrition, and political uncertainty. Our CEO, Ivana Jemelkova, highlighted the critical importance of #standards for hydrogen’s commercial and reputational success in an interoperable global market in a conversation with Dr. Prasad Chaphekar, (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India), Silke Obst (European Commission – DG GROW), Susana Moreira (H2Global Foundation), and Stan Zurkiewicz (DEKRA). Daria Nochevnik moderated a workshop on international trade with participants including Rodrigo Pinto Scholtbach and Carla Robledo (Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth of The Netherlands), Marcos Kulka (H2CHILE), Bertrand Ciavaldini (ABH2), Agnese Dagile (European Commission – DG ENER), Dr Zeid Alghareeb (Ministry of Energy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), and Jorgo Chatzimarkakis (Hydrogen Europe). Özlem Duyan, Julie Monluc, Carolynn Jaworska, Nicolas Diercxsens, Marion Thérage and Steven Libbrecht attended sessions on transport, and the bottlenecks preventing H2 mobility from scaling-up, as well as discussions related to the competitiveness for electrolyser manufacturing in Europe, and a H2UB panel focused on female entrepreneurship in the hydrogen sector. We were also delighted to co-host a lunch with leading women in hydrogen alongside Dr. Sopna Sury, Chair of Hydrogen Europe. Thank you Dr. Sunita Satyapal, Valérie RUIZ DOMINGO, Stefanie Kopchick, Vibeke Rasmussen, Aylan Aliyeva, Dr. Danica Maljković, Sylvie Denoble-Mayer, Beth Deane and Elizabeth “Ebby” Brennan for joining! Finally, the Hydrogen Council team joined our Co-Chair Hyundai Motor Company (현대자동차) in celebrating the 15-year anniversary of the Hyundai Motor Group office in Brussels.

“Deploying hydrogen is like running a marathon.” 🏃♀️ That’s how Rebecca Maserumule, Ph.D., Chair of the IPHE (International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy) framed the conversation at the 42nd IPHE Steering Committee Meeting in Brussels in the presence of 20+ governments working on hydrogen. The Hydrogen Council was honored to share perspectives on global hydrogen progress and continue the metaphor: Looking at the global hydrogen pipeline, we can say there was a lot of cheering and excitement at the start of the race. 🙌 And while we did well on the first kilometers and picked up a good pace (7x growth in committed capital and 4x growth in projects past FID since 2020!), the reality soon set in that getting to the finish line will require focus and perseverance. 🎯 The good news is that the track is laid out for us - we know what needs to happen next, what is - and will be - moving us forward: decisive action on 1️⃣ demand, 2️⃣ standards and 3️⃣ policy. So our message to governments was clear - let’s keep going! 🚀 Thank you IPHE for inviting us to this conversation and Laurent ANTONI, Noé van Hulst, Rebecca Maserumule, Ph.D., Harley HW, Dr. Sunita Satyapal for the continued collaboration! 🎬 And that’s a wrap! What did we get done at #COP29? At a pivotal moment for the #energytransition, the Hydrogen Council mobilized a group of some 20 industry groups in hydrogen and derivatives from around the world to jointly call on governments to not only continue but further step up their support to hydrogen. 📜 And the governments answered - endorsing a dedicated Hydrogen Declaration during the COP29 Energy Ministerial, including a set of key enablers for hydrogen deployment, especially government action to firm up demand. In addition, we were delighted to continue and further strengthen our collaboration with key international partners such as UNIDO, ISO - International Organization for Standardization, World Trade Organization, International Energy Agency (IEA), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), The World Bank Group, IFC - International Finance Corporation, Breakthrough Agenda and IPHE (International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy) and many sector associations from key countries. Special thanks to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Francesco La Camera for their personal engagement and leadership on advancing clean energy with trade. None of this would be possible without Hydrogen Council members, who joined our delegation to share concrete project examples and offer that first-hand experience to inform government decision-making: Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), 3M, Topsoe, Snam S.p.A., Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation – SMBC Group, Mizuho, Adani Group, Baker Hughes and Alfa Laval. Thank you and congratulations on a strong #COP29 for hydrogen!
