Nambi originated from Okanagan iGEM 2022, the first-ever team from their school to compete in iGEM. Their project, LifeBulb, engineered cyanobacteria to produce bioluminescence 💡 , earning them a Gold Medal 🥇 at the iGEM Grand Jamboree 2022. The team (Josh Haiworonsky, Trevor Fox, Srushti Parekh, Anastasia Bernaz, Gustavo M.) has since launched Nambi as a startup, and joined the iGEM Startups Venture Creation Labs and entire Venture Foundry Program in 2024 and recently, pitched the startup at the iGEM Startup Showcase 2024 🏆 👀 What’s the surprising thing they learned from the Venture Creation Labs 2024? “I think the most surprising thing we learned (from VCL) was how much market potential our product has. Another year, another iGEM Grand Jamboree in the books! Last month, I had the pleasure of working alongside my iGEM Startups committee to host sessions demystifying the wonderful world of entrepreneurship in Synthetic Biology. During this time, I had the privilege of moderating one panel in particular that I won't be forgetting. Joined by Kennedy McDaniel Bae, Ph.D., Sara Holland and Rebecca Godfrey PhD, we had an honest and empowering discussion on navigating the world, not just as a WiSTEM, but generally as a human. Thank-you to our inspiring speakers for letting me share the stage with them, and everyone who joined the conversation. At the Jamboree, we also celebrated our Top 15 Startups (out of 82!) at the Startup Showcase. From work in Climate & Sustainability, Health & MedTech and Food & Agtech - our cohort took the stage and presented to our panel of judges (Jerome Moreau, Sara Holland, John Cumbers, Anna Belousova, Jake Wintermute). A big congratulations to everyone who participated in the showcase - you all did a fantastic job! A special shout-out to the winners of the 2024 Startup Showcase ClearMark Biosciences, and our finalists Chloropept and NitroDuck.
