This week on Bench Boost, we’re talking all things #chromium - its applications, challenges, and best practices for sample prep. Autumn dives into the challenges of working with chromium, including why it can’t be dissolved with nitric acid alone and how its resistance to corrosion is both a blessing and a curse. 🎧 Listen now: https://lnkd.in/evWUjziV As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re grateful for our listeners who keep this podcast going strong. Thank you for being part of the Bench Boost community!

Trace metals like Chromium (Cr), Nickel (Ni), Copper (Cu), Tin (Sn), and even Lead (Pb) have long played important roles in cookware manufacturing. They’re in your stainless steel pans, non-stick linings, and trusty copper pots. But when they show up in excess (looking at you, Lead (Pb) from older cookware), things can get a little...less appetizing.   That’s why testing is crucial to make sure your sauce pan and gravy ladle are ready for the big day. We’re thankful to help labs keep your Thanksgiving feast heavy on flavor - not heavy metals. 🦃🥧

Back in October, we had the privilege of participating in the Day of Atomic Optical Spectroscopy (DAOS 2024), organized by our Slovenian partner, Merel. This event brought together lab analysts, industry leaders, and experts to exchange knowledge and insights about spectrochemistry. Our Head of Regional Sales – EMEA, Jeff Itle, presented "Navigating the Standards: How to Choose the Right Certified Reference Material." It was an honor to share the stage with esteemed speakers from Agilent Technologies, CEM Corporation, and the University of Maribor!

Take a look at the first step in our process for creating a 10,000 ppm vanadium concentrate. Here, high-purity vanadium pentoxide is mixed with dilute nitric acid, with heat and constant stirring applied overnight. The result? A solid slurry that will be further reacted and go through several color changes over the next few weeks to create a stable, high-quality vanadium solution!   And if you’re curious about the science behind vanadium, our latest Bench Boost podcast episode, out today, dives into the colorful and complex chemistry of this versatile element.   In this episode, we cover: 🧪Tips for dissolving vanadium metals, alloys, and oxides 🧪How to handle various oxidation states effectively 🧪Color-change indicators to monitor sample prep success   Listen now: https://lnkd.in/evWUjziV

Last week, our founder Paul Gaines shared his expertise on chemical compatibility and stability with our Production and Customs Development teams. He covered some fascinating aspects of our products, like how specific silicon concentrations can remain stable in water alone and the unique stability of silver in high concentrations of HCl.   Thanks, Paul, for sharing the science that drives our work every day!🧪
