🚀 Day Five Highlights: “Designing the Future of Finance” Workshop 🚀 hosted by University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, Center for Growth Markets, and State Bank of India. Today, our workshop participants had a thrilling deep dive into the most disruptive of technologies during our visit to JP Morgan Chase. Here's what stood out: Han Yang, PhD, Executive Director of Product Management for Generative AI, discussed the mission of the JP Morgan Chase Silicon Valley Tech Center that has over 1,100 professionals working on a variety of technologies, including artificial intelligence. With over 400 AI/ML use cases in production, JP Morgan has thousands of AI/ML experts driving the technology for every line of business. JP Morgan believes that artificial intelligence isn’t a fad. In a gripping discussion with Nitin Chugh (Deputy Managing Director and Head - Digital Banking, SBI), Han reiterated “AI is the foundational technology that has and will continue to change the world”. Chandra Shekhar Dhir, Executive Director of ML and AI, Center for Excellence, focused on the opportunity of ML and AI in deterministic scenarios, like call center voice-to-text transformations handling industry-specific jargon in multilingual environments. Another interesting deep dive was a discussion with Rupalee Ruchismita, Research Director, CGM and PhD candidate Yixiang Xu on their use of text, voice and video in their 'AI for Equity' research (https://shorturl.at/8IJ6O), emphasizing the benefit of Gen AI especially in serving the unbanked. It was an unexpected delight to discover Chandra Shekhar Dhir is a proud recipient of a technical Emmy! Discussions on regional diversity also drew parallels to Hong Kong's linguistic diversity, similar to India, highlighting the tech challenges in solutioning for multilingual conversations from mandarin to english and how deploying AI at scale addresses these issues with high reliability and at scale. A big thank you to both speakers. Their insights on how ML, AI, and Gen AI can solve problems for the very poor and those with limited literacy in growth markets led to deep discussions. Their recommendation to leverage existing LLMs for scale was particularly thought-provoking. We are excited to incorporate these learnings into our 90-day Design Sprint! Stay tuned for more updates from our workshop! #DesignThinking #FutureOfFinance #Innovation #Fintech #UCBerkeley #StateBankOfIndia #HaasSchoolofBusiness #CenterforGrowthMarkets #JPMorganChase

🚀 Day Four Highlights: “Designing the Future of Finance” Workshop 🚀 hosted by University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, Center for Growth Markets, and State Bank of India. Today's firm visit to Salesforce HQ was nothing short of transformative for our workshop participants! Here are the key takeaways: Manish Chandra, VP of Products, shared how Salesforce's values of Trust, Customer Success, Innovation and Equality give direction to enable challenging product design decisions, balancing business tradeoffs, timelines, and critical market requirements. He highlighted the 'customer first' philosophy and how Salesforce focused the data residency requirements of its customers in many emerging geographies. Donald Tam, SVP s/w Eng detailed how the 'Infrastructure as code' practice led to greater reliability, efficiency and better cost structures. Sridhar Srigiriraju, Director of Infrastructure Engineering, made this happen and reiterated the Salesforce's V2MOM process - Vision, Values, Methods, Obstacles, and Measures as a key tool that helps build strategy and set goals. A special thanks to all and Lorrie Ballard for involving the President and Chief Engineering Officer, Srini Tallapragada who offered profound insights into the role of leadership in cultivating an innovation culture. Key highlights included - 'Change is hard' and the power of small, autonomous teams in problem solving, when they are both empowered and accountable. A strategic focus split —20% on incubation and 80% on transformations and productivity—ensuring continuous innovation alongside operational efficiency sparked deep discussions among our SBI participants. The wisdom shared has energized our participants as they head into the 90-day Design Sprint, poised to bring these innovations to life.
