Healthy Living for Everyone.

About us

Founded in 1967, Integral Care prides itself on providing quality, community-based services for Travis County residents with brain-based disorders. Integral Care’s historical beginning marked the first time that public, community-based behavioral health and intellectual disabilities services became available, known as community centers. Integral Care was known as the Austin Travis County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center until September 2009, when its name was changed to reflect evolving attitudes and terminology and to honor the dignity of people who seek our services. As of November 2011, Integral Care was accredited by the Joint Commission, ensuring Integral Care's continuous quality improvement and standard of services. Integral Care was also awarded the CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation in November 2011 for its commitment to employee health, taking extensive, concrete actions in key areas of health and wellness to fight cancer in the workplace. In 2013, Integral Care was awarded National Council for Behavioral Health's Community Impact Award for Mental Health First Aid. Integral Care's programs are administered through the following service areas: Adult Behavioral Health, Child and Family, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Psychiatric Crisis Services and Jail Diversion. Services can include psychiatric evaluations, 24-hour crisis interventions, medication treatment, inpatient treatment, employment and vocational services, service coordination, family support and respite care, housing, information and referral, supported living and residential services. Integral Care also provides community services in homes, on the streets or at other sites as needed.

⭐️ Program highlight: Terrace at Oak Springs ⭐️ Terrace at Oak Springs (TAOS) is Integral Care's very first single-site permanent supportive housing (PSH) community! The 50-studio unit East Austin apartment complex opened in 2019, and serves the general homeless population of Travis County, including veterans. TAOS receives its referrals from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Ending Community Homelessness Coalition (ECHO). Along with peer support from the team at Terrace at Oak Springs, residents receive case management and life skills training. They also get connected to any mental health care services or substance use disorder treatment options they may need, as well as assistance exploring employment opportunities. Something that sets Terrace at Oak Springs apart from other PSH communities is the fact that it is connected to Integral Care's Oak Springs Clinic, where residents who live with mental illness and use alcohol or drugs are connected with treatment options, support groups, and other Integral Care programs. Staff and residents at TAOS work together to create treatment plans that focus on ways to improve their well-being on a daily basis. This close-knit and caring community will be celebrating its 5th anniversary next Friday, and we are very excited to see how it will continue to grow over the next 5 years! 🎂 #HealthyLivingForEveryone #EndHomelessness #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #MentalHealthCare #HousingIsAHumanRight

Happy #Thanksgiving! 🧡 We are deeply grateful for our incredibly talented staff, strong leadership, and community of support. We're proud to say that Cultivating Workforce, one of the pillars of our strategic plan, is something we do every single day: from supporting team members' well-being, to providing opportunities for growth, and recruiting a team that reflects the community we serve. We are particularly grateful for the staff members who serve our neighbors 24/7. Crises happen all throughout the year, but the end of the year and the holidays are a time when more of us are in need of support— which we are honored to provide. 🤲💛

⭐️ Program highlight: Safe Haven ⭐️ Safe Haven is Integral Care's transitional homeless shelter catering specifically to the veteran community of Travis County. There are very few programs like Safe Haven across the country, and it is one of the few transitional housing shelters for veterans in Texas, which has one of the largest veteran populations in America. With a capacity of up to 15 residents, the facility works in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which is where all of its referrals come from. These referrals will be for veterans experiencing homelessness all over the country, not just in Travis County or Texas. Referrals have to be eligible for medical services through the VA and meet other criteria relating to their active-duty experience and discharge status before Safe Haven receives their application. The average stay of a resident is between 3 and 6 months, though program staff knows that some of the situations that some residents come to them with mean that it will take a little longer to resolve their housing needs. Safe Haven connects residents to mental health services through the VA, substance use treatment, Medical Assisted Therapy (MAT), and peer-support services, legal assistance, and education and job training. Most Safe Haven residents transition out of the shelter and into independent housing; we are proud of the Safe Haven team for providing person-centered, trauma-informed, and harm reducing care to a healthy, thriving veteran community. 💛 💡 Did You Know? Safe Haven is one of Integral Care's oldest programs! It has been serving the Austin and Travis County community for over 25 years. #HealthyLivingForEveryone #EndHomelessness #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #MentalHealthCare #HousingIsAHumanRight

⭐️ Program highlight: HOST ⭐️ The Homeless Outreach Street Team (HOST) is a collaboration between Integral Care, the Austin Police Department, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and the Downtown Austin Community Court. The unhoused population of Downtown Austin is sizable, in large part because the location puts people closer to the services that they seek. This team works to connect adults who live on the streets of Downtown Austin specifically to housing, case management, mental and primary health care, as well as alcohol and drug treatment. The team regularly stations at community spaces like churches, community centers, or public libraries to offer on-the-spot Coordinated Assessments, connect folks to resources to obtain new vital documents (birth certificates, passports, state IDs), or receive their mail. The team will perform one-on-one outreach to adults experiencing homelessness in Downtown Austin and work to supply items that they need most immediately: hygiene kits, clothing, sleeping bags, and more. With the support of APD and EMS, HOST works on quickly supporting high-need users, which helps divert people from emergency medical, psychiatric, and criminal justice systems. The issue of homelessness in Austin has many root causes; HOST's caring, compassionate, and resourceful efforts are tailored to the many unique needs of each member of our community. ❤️ #HealthyLivingForEveryone #EndHomelessness #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealth #MentalHealthCare #HousingIsAHumanRIght

🙌 Community News: the City of Austin held a press conference yesterday to announce new funding for The Downtown Austin Community Court (DACC) to expand access to mental health and substance abuse programs! DACC strives to break down barriers for people to access court, housing, and social services. Integral Care Practice Administrator Julie Guirguis represented Integral Care at the event. In her remarks, she expressed gratitude for the City’s leadership and prioritization of access to mental health services for our community. Our collaboration with DACC and Austin-Travis County EMS helps to directly serve and connect people to critical resources and strengthens connections to mental health services. #HealthyLivingforEveryone #CommunitySupport
