IAAP Certification News | Exam Application Fee Update After conversations with several chapter leadership groups, organizational members, and members from governmental agencies it become clear that managing two transactions is not sustainable for our members. To prevent any friction for our organizations and those who work with them, we are taking steps to address this concern: For 2025 these are the changes: January/February and March/April Exam Sessions: - No application fee at the time of application - Only one transaction after applications are approved - Exam fee prices are the same as published. - There is nothing deducted from the exam fee price. Beginning in May/June Exam Session and continuing for the rest of 2025: - Exam fees increase by $25 except for those in United Nations Emerging & Developing Economies. The January - February exam session opens 15 January in the Certification Portal. Access Exam Session Here: https://shorturl.at/59ysj #ProfessionalCertification #A11Y

Updates On Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Accessibility laws in Canada are being updated to help ensure that technology is accessible for everyone. Right now, accessibility standards vary by province, but there's a push to make these rules more similar across the country. This could change how Ontario’s accessibility laws (the AODA) are developed in the future. One key focus area is Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including websites, mobile apps, kiosks, and office devices. Currently, the AODA already covers web accessibility and kiosks, but future updates might align Ontario’s rules with other provinces and national standards to ensure that people with disabilities can access and use these technologies across the country. Hollywood Must Prioritize Disability Inclusion In an article on Variety, Randee Dawn shares that Hollywood is at a turning with disability representation. The success of a film from 2021 titled "CODA" which featured Deaf and Hard-of-hearing actors, showed that inclusion is not only the right thing to do but also good for business. Industry leaders like Nic Novicki, Ashley Eakin, Siân Heder, and others are pushing for more disability representation both in front of and behind the camera. Heder points out in the article, “People can smell authenticity.” Investing in disability inclusion is an opportunity for better, more engaging stories and a broader audience. Hollywood must recognize the potential of this untapped market, both creatively and financially. It’s time for Hollywood to step up and include people with disability in every aspect of filmmaking. IAAP Member in the News | Tamar Makharashvili Last month, Tamar Makharashvili was a speaker at the Global Conference on Accessibility in Historic Sites and Cities, hosted by the Tower of David Museum. Tamar discussed the accessibility of the built environment at historic sites in Georgia, including case studies from UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Congratulate Tamar: https://shorturl.at/hAD1o #A11Y #Inclusion
In December, I had the honor of being a speaker at the Global Conference on Accessibility in Historic Sites and Cities, hosted by the Tower of David Museum. I am grateful to the organizers and all the incredible international speakers for creating such an inspiring platform. Over the three days of the conference, more than 300 participants from 38 countries gathered, offering a unique opportunity to meet professionals and experts equally dedicated to advancing accessibility and inclusion. This experience was both inspiring and rewarding. During my presentation, I discussed the accessibility of the built environment at historic sites in Georgia, including case studies from UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I also highlighted the crucial importance of digital accessibility. I remain committed to improving accessibility and supporting stakeholders in raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and implementing inclusive solutions. I am actively collaborating with organizations, policymakers, and experts in the region to ensure that accessibility is integrated as a fundamental principle in the preservation and management of historic sites. By uniting our efforts, we can create inclusive environments where everyone, regardless of ability, can fully experience and appreciate our shared cultural heritage.
