  • Empowering Communities through Access to Clean Water. We stepped into Lillian Omara's home in Ayabi in the warm afternoon. The 56-year-old widow's eyes sparkled as she began to share her story. Lillian painted a vivid picture of her daily journey to the river where dirty waters threatened the health of her loved ones. She recalled spending endless hours collecting water. Lillian no longer needs to worry about these things. This July Lifeline changed the path of Lillian's life forever. With a new borehole drilled in Ayabi and crystal-clear water flowing effortlessly into Lillian's waiting container, her long walks are over. As she spoke, her face radiated joy, her words expressed good health, happiness. In that moment, it was clear that Lillian's story was more than just a tale of access to clean water - a testament to the transformative power of access to clean water. #Betterwater #Betterlives

Volunteering in Northern Uganda was great!   Adding 1,116 km to the odometer of my loyal 4x4 - some of them in rough conditions – allowed me to witness the great work that my friends at International Lifeline Fund continue to do.   As a board member, my mission was to engage with all stakeholders on the ground to explore opportunities to improve Lifeline’s impact. Given the short time window, I focused most of my time on the water side of things, and come with great news: * The WASH team delivered their first fully solar piped water scheme in Iwal and are quite advanced with the second one in Teboke. * The WASH program continues to improve access to water in Apac, Kwania, and Otuke district and has a healthy funding stream from the generous people who donate to charity: water * The capacity to execute of the team and the quality of their deliverable has reached the next level. * Supporting the professional development of the team - including covering academic tuition for some - is not easy for a smaller organization but it’s paying off in terms of performance and morale. * EverFlow relocated to Kwania as a standalone social enterprise and is leading the conversation about fully implementing the new model for operation and maintenance of rural water sources in Uganda, while providing >99% uptime to water users in the rural last mile. * A hard-working farmer called Juma is using a drip irrigation system that he can pay back while still boosting his income, proving the concept of this climate-resilient technique in the local context. * The clean cooking factory had to shift focus from home cooking solutions to institutional stoves for over 100 schools in the challenging region of Karamoja. * I was also impressed to see how much the roads and urban infrastructure improved in less than two years. Trade and urbanization will improve quality of life.   Through deep conversations with Lifeline's different teams and the local governments we envisioned the future together, including the use of digital and IoT to transform the sanitation landscape at scale. But the best is always the people side: I caught up with so many friends and loved ones from my decade in the Lango region – it was an overdue homecoming and I look forward to seeing you all again. Thank you Lifeline team for the hard work you do. The development is palpable – I hope my recommendations lead to better outcomes for our communities.   I also want to thank SLB for its visionary HR policies, which allowed me to have impact beyond the scope of my normal work. I hope you enjoy the pictures. Each one tells a story, which I’d be glad to share if asked. • Last week we conducted a social-economic survey in Kwania district aimed at understanding the community scheduled for piped water system construction next year. During our visit we had the opportunity to revisit one of our communities benefiting from the drilled boreholes. There, Odur Patrick, a 20-year-old from Obalo Deo village, Ayabi Town council, Kwania District noted that his life has been significantly transformed since International Lifelinefund constructed a borehole in his community. As a child-headed Family, Odur was forced to drop out of school and rely on farming as his primary source of income. He expressed gratitude for the borehole, which has made access to clean water a mere 5-minute walk away and is affordable with a maintenance cost of 1500 Ugandan shillings per month which has also ensured sustainability. Odur testified that the water is clean and reliable, used for drinking and cooking, and has greatly improved their overall well-being. When asked about the possibility of piping water to his community, he enthusiastically endorsed the idea, acknowledging it's potential to further enhance their quality of life. This encounter serves as a touching reminder of the tangible impact of our interventions and the importance of continued support for such initiatives.

  • Last Thursday, we were delighted to welcome the team from Green Empowerment to our country office in Lira, Uganda. They toured our facilities and followed our stove production process. The team also visited our first piped water system in Kwania and new proposed site in Ayabi. We appreciated the valuable ideas and insights shared during their visit. It was an honor to host Green Empowerment and we look forward to continued collaboration and partnership towards sustainable solutions. #sustainability #RenewableEnergy #CleanWater #Partnership
