Miscarriages sometimes require treatment to prevent life-threatening infection or hemorrhage. Abortion bans prevent health professionals from freely and quickly providing this care. Pregnant people traveling for the holidays now have to consider the risk of spending time in a state that bans health care.

Ipas Pakistan marked the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence by hosting a knowledge sharing and networking event “Unpacking Reproductive Health Responses for Saving Lives and Wellbeing” on December 4, 2024, in Islamabad. The event honored the dedication of frontline healthcare providers from ICT, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, who play a pivotal role in delivering safe reproductive health services. Syeda Batool Mazhar set the context by highlighting the distinct intersection between reproductive health and gender-based violence. The panel discussion “Conversation about Health Systems Preparedness and Response to GBV” featured SRH experts Dr. Azra Ahsan, Vice Chair, Contraception Committee, FIGO; Dr. Aziz-Un-Nisa, President, SOGP; and Ms. Ayesha Salma, Country Director, Ipas Pakistan, moderated by Dr. Saima Zubair, Vice President, Women’s Health, Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians. The panel discussion highlighted the challenges faced by women at their household level and health facility level, impacting their psychological and physical wellbeing. The key takeaways from the panel discussion are: · Implementing existing GBV protection frameworks effectively in healthcare systems. · Pre-service and in-service training of healthcare providers in trauma-informed care for GBV survivors and linkages to referrals psychological support and legal aid. · Understanding and addressing the risks that healthcare providers face in responding to complex GBV cases. · Building stronger collaboration between healthcare, legal systems, and civil society. · Unlocking access to SRH services including treatment for early pregnancy loss and contraception in humanitarian emergencies. 16 Days of activism campaign The Importance of education in preventing gender-based violence Education plays a crucial role in preventing gender-based violence (GBV) by promoting equality, respect, and an understanding of the power dynamics that perpetuate this type of violence. How education prevents GBV? 1. Improvement of socio-cultural norms: Education can deconstruct gender stereotypes that normalize violence, promoting values of equality and respect. 2. Empowerment of women and girls: Access to education increases the autonomy of women and girls, enabling them to recognize their rights and report abuse. 3. Awareness of human rights: Including topics about human rights and gender equality in school curricula contributes to building more just societies. 4. Strengthening CSOs, community influencers, and partner associations: Strengthening these organizations and community leaders helps promote educational practices that prevent violence, expanding the impact of GBV awareness in communities. 5. Involvement of men and boys: Education is essential to engage men and boys in the fight against GBV, encouraging healthy behaviors and allyship. 6. Improvement of policies and laws: Education empowers individuals to raise awareness, analyze policies and laws, and ensure they align with societal challenges, including gender-based violence. #Education #Gender #Human #Women #MenengagementPoliciesandlaws #Socioculturalnorms #Communityorganizations #GACinMozambique #SwedwnInMZ #MISAU High Commission of Canada in Mozambique | Haut-commissariat du Canada au Mozambique The Erik E. and Edith H. Every year, #16DaysofActivism global campaign calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and children. This year’s theme is “Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women." This theme shines a spotlight on the alarming escalation of violence against women and the urgent need for accountability and action. 🛑 Nearly 1 in 3 women experience violence in their lifetime. 🛑 1 in 4 adolescent girls faces abuse from their partners. 🛑 For thousands of women, the cycle of violence ends tragically—with their murder by partners or family members. Femicide, the intentional killing of women and girls because of their gender, is the most brutal and visible manifestation of gender-based violence. 👉 Violence against women and girls can and must be prevented. There is #NoExcuse for violence. Join us to day on our Webinar on the CTS Nexus. Register here https://lnkd.in/dZrUz9bS to begin the conversation. During these 16 Days of Activism let us speak out, advocate, and take action. Together, we can make a difference and create a world free from violence. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #UNiTE #NoExcuse
