At Jajoo Warrngara we are growing our library of First Nations histories so more young people can learn about our shared history. We share knowledge through community perspectives co-designed with community members across the Country. In the Native Police unit, year 9 students can explore the historical impact of colonial regimes, including the Native Police Force. They learn about the enduring effects of past policies and laws and how they link to contemporary culture, ways of knowing, doing and being. After over 10 years of working with Custodians, we are very excited to share the results of our Case Study that explore the impact Jajoo Warrngara’s community driven media and educational resources have on teacher confidence when embedding the Australian Curriculum’s Cross curriculum priority Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. We thank the University of Queensland, Critical Thinking Project who led the delivery of this Case Study on our behalf. This has been a long-awaited opportunity for us to test our community-driven approach to developing resources for classroom learning environments across the nation. 67% of teachers surveyed case study said they were uncomfortable sharing First Nations perspectives in relation to the Australian Curriculum. Jajoo Warrngara aims to change that. With our many teacher resources 📖, we aim to help teachers feel more comfortable sharing knowledge in the classroom, in a respectful way 👍🏽. Hear from our Co-CEO Sharon, about creating culturally inclusive learning experiences for First Nations students. “Ensuring that students see themselves reflected in their learning can help to foster diverse and inclusive learning environments. Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives not just in curriculum, but in day to day practice can empower First Nations learners to contribute their own knowledge and enhance their learning through lived experiences, languages and cultures.” To learn more go to Jajoo Warrngara: The Culture Classroom: https://lnkd.in/gqQ6ayNz #education #firstnationsperspectives #aboriginaleducation
