At Jajoo Warrngara we are growing our library of First Nations histories so more young people can learn about our shared history. We share knowledge through community perspectives co-designed with community members across the Country. In the Native Police unit, year 9 students can explore the historical impact of colonial regimes, including the Native Police Force. They learn about the enduring effects of past policies and laws and how they link to contemporary culture, ways of knowing, doing and being. As teachers, school leaders and students take a break, the Directorate First Nations Education is busy creating and updating learning journey resources. One of the learning journey resources is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Today marks the 5th day of the 56th regular session of the Human Rights Council, during which it will review the report by Farida Shaheed, Special Rapporteur on the right to education. This report, intended to address academic freedom, unfortunately, exhibits a pronounced anti-Israel bias and discriminates against the Jewish people. It legitimizes violent pro-Palestinian rallies at universities worldwide, criticizes the well-recognized IHRA definition of antisemitism, and fails to mention the hateful educational materials that UNRWA provides to an entire generation of Palestinian children. Watch the Jerusalem Institute of Justice's public statement addressing this biased, discriminatory, and ideologically driven report. Aboriginal Peoples have lived and thrived on this continent for more than 60,000 years - more than a thousand generations. Out of those 60,000 years, Aboriginal Peoples have been impacted by colonisation for 236 years. Just 5 seconds in the history of this continent. No matter the impact of colonisation, Aboriginal peoples have a spirit that never dies. This spirit is strongest when we are standing on our ancestral lands. We need more truth telling about these 236 years. We need it in the mainstream education system. Stop with the lies. It's time for truth. There is no #Reconciliation without #Truth.

Article 26 clause 2 of the UDHR states: "Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace." On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honor the survivors of Residential and Boarding Schools across Turtle Island and remember the children who never came home. These schools were part of an intentionally violent assimilation agenda waged against Indigenous Peoples, aimed at erasing cultures, languages, and identities. Our communities are still grappling with the deep intergenerational trauma left in the wake of this systemic violence, as it fractured families, disrupted traditional ways of life, and inflicted lasting harm on mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Yet, despite these devastating efforts, Indigenous Peoples continue to resist, reclaim, and revitalize our cultures, standing strong in the face of colonial oppression. Today, we commit to truth, healing, and justice for those who endured these injustices and to building a future where Indigenous rights and voices are fully respected and protected. #EveryChildMatters #OrangeShirtDay #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousResilience

Every child has a right to childhood....What is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child? That includes Palestinian children ...West Bank or Gaza there is no Hamas in the West Bank this child is not a human shield for anybody... he is a child and is protected by the.... UNCROC is a comprehensive human rights treaty that enshrines specific children's rights in international law. It was adopted by the United Nations in 1989 and defines universal principles and standards for the status and treatment of children worldwide. UNCROC was ratified by New Zealand in 1993. All United Nations member states, except for the United States of America, have ratified the Convention. Why is UNCROC important? UNCROC guarantees basic and fundamental rights to the world's children. The rights are set out in 54 articles that establish human rights standards for the treatment of children and young people. The rights include civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, and set out in detail what every child needs to have a safe, happy and fulfilled childhood. In simple terms, what are the UNCROC rights? UNCROC gives children and young people up to the age of 18 the right to: life, survival and development the Government making sure that the best interests of the child are taken into account when making decisions about the child access to education and health care grow up in an environment of happiness, love and understanding protection from discrimination of any sort develop their personalities, abilities and talents protection from sexual exploitation, abuse and economic exploitation special measures to protect those that are in conflict with the law an opinion and for that opinion to be heard be informed about and participate in achieving their rights special measures to protect those belonging to minority groups. https://lnkd.in/dKrJhRmJ
