Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations reposted this
This week, during the “Orange the World” campaign to end violence against women, the United Nations sent an invitation to all member states to join the “High-Level Network on Gender-Responsive Policing”. This new High-Level Network was launched at the UN Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in June 2024 by UNWOMEN, Senegal, Chile and the Netherlands. The goal of the network is to create a global platform to exchange knowledge and experience on Gender-Responsive Policing with the commitment at the highest level. We are thankful that the ministers of the Interior of Senegal and Chile, together with the Police Chief of the Netherlands, Chief Constable Janny Knol, in close cooperation with UNWOMEN, are committed to co-chair the network. All member states are invited to join this High-Level Network, to propose topics to discuss, and to lead or participate in regional or thematic working groups. Storytime! Stretching the letters on the page, the voice of youth report woke from its slumber; it was an exciting day. It was the day – the launch, in New York, no less. Today, it would show the world what it had to offer – a compilation of lessons learned, stories, and collective challenges that its writers had faced in their work on youth political participation worldwide. Together with its writers, it would present its findings at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations with an audience of (youth) representatives from multiple countries, UN officials, youth delegates and organizations working on youth political participation. Today, we share with you some highlights from the Voice of Youth report's first outing in #NewYork and, more importantly, what now? 👇 https://lnkd.in/dEmR5QYz Yoka Brandt, Lina Al Aloul, NIMD Jordan, Chris Mark, Kenya Young Members of County Assemblies (KYMCA), Kevin Eustatia - Palm, Angela Rodriguez Sarmiento, NIMD/Colombia | Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy/Colombia, Roxanne Van der Bliek, Heleen Schrooyen

Peruvian/Dutch drag queen Envy Peru, winner of "Drag Race Holland”, and head judge of “Make Up Your Mind" is entering the United Nations (UN) as one of the first drag queens ever during the 2024 High Level Political Forum (HLPF), a political event where world leaders discuss the implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). "Drag is a form of self-expression and political activism that contributes to diversity and inclusivity and embodies the concept; leave no one behind," says Envy Peru. As part of her presence in New York, Envy Peru hosted the Power of Pride event "A Queer Future of Care." Along with activists from Armenia, Kenya, Namibia, Nepal, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, they share stories from their lives and dream of an inclusive future. This event was organized by COC Netherlands, Pan Africa ILGA, ILGA Asia, ILGA World, UN Women, UNDP, and the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations. Drag has the ability to confront socioeconomic and political narratives. In addition to being an art form it is also a type of resistance and there are politics linked to drag. Introducing drag to the UN serves as a powerful reminder that our world needs a queer future rooted in care. “I am incredibly proud as a Peruvian/Dutch queen to speak on a global level about my life and how I envision the future as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. There are too many places worldwide where being queer is forbidden and sometimes even criminzalized. I find that shocking in the year 2024. Being one of the first queens to enter the United Nations is an incredible honor and a highlight of my career. This is a beautiful opportunity to make our voices heard," says Envy Peru. 📸 by Richard Koek #LHBT #LHBTI #COCNLD #COCNederland #LGBT #LGBTQ #Nederland #Rights #Mensenrechten #HumanRights
