On behalf of Pennsylvania's #NursingHome providers, we sent the letter below to Governor Shapiro outlining our funding request ahead of his 2025-2026 budget proposal, which is due out next month. Our request comes down to two things: ➡️ Nursing homes need to be adequately reimbursed for the care they provide. At least $139M in the upcoming state budget will help build on the momentum from recent years in closing the funding gap and addressing the ongoing workforce crisis. ➡️ The underlying system is broken, with providers facing unpredictable funding year after year. Setting a floor for the Budget Adjustment Factor (BAF) at .90 starts patching the holes in the system and ensuring sustainability and access to quality care for Pennsylvania’s growing older adult population. Our thanks to Sen. David Argall and Rep. RYAN BIZZARRO for addressing this important issue by announcing their intention to introduce legislation that would make this happen. https://ow.ly/8pwk50UH6xy We're proud to advocate in partnership with the Pennsylvania Health Care Association and PACAH for this needed reform and worthy investment. LeadingAge PA is committed to advocating the whole aging services ecosystem and is requesting additional funding for LIFE providers in the budget as well — more details coming soon. #PABudget #WhatsAheadinAgingServices

Finding time to train our front line leaders in aging services is hard. Afterall, organizations need them doing what they do best - coaching, engaging, and supervising their teams. But, we all know that leadership skills usually aren't innate; they need to be taught. Taking the time to set up our frontline leaders for success is important. That's why LeadingAge PA developed the new Leaders Ignited program. It's only an hour and a half per week, for seven weeks. That's pretty manageable for a leader to squeeze into their schedule. Plus, it's only $499 per person. That's less than $50 per hour of professional training, which is tough to beat! Learn more at the link!

At the start of the 2025-2026 Pennsylvania legislative session, Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward addressed the Senate, emphasizing several key challenges on the state's agenda. One key issue she highlighted was the need to continue supporting aging services providers in delivering essential care to older adults. Senator Ward remarked, “Nursing homes are struggling… They are caring for our most vulnerable citizens, and we all want those residents to receive the best care possible.” We appreciate Senator Ward’s acknowledgment of the extensive and complex aging services ecosystem and the urgent need for continued improvements. We look forward to collaborating with her and other lawmakers moving forward. Learn more about Senator Ward's remarks here: https://ow.ly/grwJ50UCOvy
