Every ACRE cohort has its own personality. It is exciting to meet the newest ACRE students and learn about them individually and see how they come together as a class. Some really inspiring personal stories were shared among these entrepreneurs, creatives, career changers, and changemakers; and a few commonalities were also discovered - three are twins, three ride motorcycles, and several are musically gifted. Can you guess who's been to Antarctica? Now, let's see those "back of the napkin" homework assignments for week 2.
Last night was class #1 of our 24 week ACRE program! This is the 14th cohort in ACRE history since Mark Eppli founded the program Marquette Business 20 years ago. The mission then as it is today is to help diversify the commercial real estate industry. Huge thanks to program partner/administrative lead LISC Milwaukee and education partners Milwaukee School of Engineering and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for the ongoing teamwork - it’s rare to see three major universities come together on a single education program. But when they do, the students, and the community, win. Were also grateful to Karen Rinehart and Kimo Ah Yun for ensuring every student who completed the program gets three credits at the graduate level, a huge value and validation for their hard work. Last night couldn’t have been a bigger kickoff! Thanks to Elmer Moore of Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) for giving a welcome message to the students and to partners Theodore Lipscomb, Christopher Laurent, MASL, and Brian Konyn, CPA for being there as well. Shout out to our other lecturers Carolyn Esswein, FAICP, CNU-A, Chad Venne, CPM®, Anthony Pennington-Cross and Matthew Tadisch, too. Students, we are just as excited as you for the journey ahead!

After visiting LISC Milwaukee, Lawrence Washington and Brianna Brown were inspired by the emerging developers they met — all committed to reinvesting in their communities. LISC Milwaukee is one of the four Develop the Developer (DTD) Academies driving meaningful change by empowering developers. The DTD program focuses on revitalizing historically underserved communities by providing graduates with technical assistance to access funding through sources such as grants, loans and foundations that support minority-owned businesses. These developers are building more than just multifamily housing — they're creating a foundation for opportunity and economic progress in communities that need it most.
