Thank you, Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc. for your heartfelt words recognizing our journey. When Juana was diagnosed with lupus, it was difficult not only for her children and husband but for our whole family. We were scared of the unknown. However, we knew we would get through this. We needed to learn about lupus, treatment options, and how to manage and support her and each other. She started loom knitting to ease her mind because lupus was affecting her both physically and emotionally. We were there for her and for each other. Out of these challenging times, we found a purpose: to bring hope and support to others facing a similar situation. We wanted to bring hope, support, and empowerment to them, their caregivers, and their loved ones too. Since 2012, Looms for Lupus, Inc., led by Estela Mata-Carcamo , Juana Mata, and our team, has been committed to helping patients and caregivers find their voices, advocate for themselves, build relationships with their care teams, and empower them with the tools they need. We provide global hybrid support groups, hybrid educational symposiums, and help them discover a sense of hope and community. Thank you for your support and recognition. It means the world to us as we continue “Knitting a Community of Hope.” #Looms4Lupus #MataSisters #Community #PatientAdvocacy #Support #caregiverssupport #hope

Determined to transform that experience into something meaningful, Estela co-founded Looms for Lupus, Inc. to raise awareness, provide resources, and empower others navigating similar journeys. Today, Estela and Juana are helping patients and caregivers find their voice, advocate for themselves, and discover hope. Read more about their inspiring story: https://lnkd.in/g4xRFfHK

Looms for Lupus, Inc. was part of the #Spanish educational event on Lupus and Lupus Nephritis in Chicago this past September! Hosted by Lupus Society of Illinois Northwestern Medicine sponsored by Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc. and National Kidney Foundation , this event provided vital information and resources in Spanish, highlighting the importance of linguistic accessibility in healthcare. Dr. Irene Blanco, (rheumatologist)spoke about Lupus SLE Dr. Luisa Safar Boueri ( Nephrologist) discussed Lupus Nephritis Dr. Juan C. Caicedo, ( Transplant surgeon) provided great information about transplant benefits and process. Nina Sanchez and Juana Mata shared their lived experience as lupus patients and Nina as a kidney transplant recipient. Estela Mata-Carcamo moderated the patient panel and Q&A session It was such an amazing event where we connected deeply with the Spanish-speaking community. We learned, laughed, cried, and provided essential resources. Families came to support their loved ones, and the engagement was heartwarming—from sisters supporting sisters to parents supporting their daughters, husbands, and friends. We left feeling inspired and grateful for this opportunity. Being originally from Mexico, with Spanish as our first language, we deeply understand the importance of receiving information in our preferred language and the cultural significance it holds. #matasisters #Looms4Lupus #Lupus #LupusNephritis #Spanish #HealthcareAccessibility
