WAS IT ALL A DREAM? 🥥🌴 We kicked off Lil Bucks' year in Indonesia, visiting Big Tree Farms Inc. and Aliet Green coconut sugar growers on Java. How wild + special that I got to visit alongside our COO Kailey Donewald who worked with coconut for nearly a decade at her previous startup🍦😭🙏💗
Can't describe how much of a career/life highlight this was. When you're visiting these growers, you're not visiting thousands of acres of industrialized land with manicured rows of trees….you're visiting micro farms, their homes and backyards, where the harvesters climb 20-30 trees twice a day. It's typically the husbands who harvest while the 👑queen👑 women perform the delicate sugar-making process to prepare for additional processing, making either granulated coconut sugar or blocks of coconut sugar. They use indigenous organic practices to preserve the coconut nira (the "sap" from top of the trees that is the base of coconut sugar), like using a combination of mangosteen shells and lime in the nira containers to stop fermentation before processing.
It's as #regenerativeorganic as it gets, and we are beyond humbled for the opportunity to see this work in action on the other side of the world, and seeing how it compares to the wonderful work our farmers are doing in the USA for buckwheat. We are all more connected than we think 🌏🧑🌾🌱🌴💚
