  • We are delighted to have contributed to the Cleantech Reality Check, a timely series of reports by Breakthrough Energy , Cleantech for Europe, and featuring analysis by Systemiq Ltd. This necessary and urgent ‘reality check’ for policymakers reveals that Europe is falling behind on its electrification goals. Electricity demand has stagnated at 22% of final energy demand since 2010, far from the 37-40% target for 2030. The report highlights three key technologies that can drive progress: Long Duration Energy Storage (#LDES), industrial heat electrification, and grid modernisation. But to meet these goals, we need immediate, coordinated action. Key takeaways:  🔋 LDES deployment needs to ramp up drastically—only 3.7 GW are under development vs. the 65 GW needed by 2030.  🔌 Investment in grid expansion must double to support the energy transition.  ♨️ Industrial heat electrification lags, with only a quarter of the necessary progress achieved.   The Cleantech Reality Check comes at a pivotal moment as the EU prepares to roll out its Clean Industrial Deal. Let’s work together to accelerate these technologies and unlock Europe’s clean energy potential!   🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gfVtVA7J or https://lnkd.in/d9dgMP4y   Ann Mettler Julia Reinaud Alberto Toril Castro Jules Besnainou Laetitia de Villepin Lukas Marthaler Abindra P. Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending and speaking at the 2nd BVES Energy Storage Systems Association Investor Summit Europe, a gathering of leaders dedicated to advancing energy storage—a cornerstone of the energy transition. One of the biggest insights I shared (and heard echoed) is the importance of tailored financing journeys. Storage companies and projects—whether in their venture, growth, debt, or infrastructure phase—have different needs. We must design investment structures that enable smooth transitions as they scale, ensuring no potential is left untapped. 💰📈 It’s also vital to recognize the diverse strengths of storage technologies. From short-duration batteries like lithium-ion to long-duration solutions such as thermal energy storage, compressed air, or CO₂ batteries, each plays a unique role in addressing the varied demands of our energy systems I’d like to extend my gratitude to BVES for the excellent organization of this event. 🙏 A special thanks to Vanessa Hensel and Sebastian M. Scholz, Dr. for their stellar moderation and to Turkan Maharramova, Urban Windelen, and the entire team for ensuring everything ran smoothly. It was also wonderful to catch up with some of the incredible Breakthrough Energy portfolio companies—Michael Geyer from Malta Inc, Alan Greenshields from ESS, Cillian Totterdell from Form Energy, and Mark Meldrum from Rondo Energy. Hearing about their progress and vision for the future was truly inspiring and reaffirmed the vital focus on scaling technologies.
