Top afternoon at Markel UK’s launch of their new Technology Insurance product. The work that Sam Rix and the team have done to offer something more than just an insurance policy will be very much appreciated by start up/scale up businesses in the UK and beyond and goes hand in hand with the service offering we provide at Brunel. What an incredible day! We were thrilled to welcome over 100 broker partners to our Markel UK MarkelTech launch event at 20 Fenchurch Street yesterday afternoon. 🚀 The day kicked off with an insightful talk from Sasha Qadri who delved into the latest tech trends, including tech investment, challenges facing the UK tech sector, and the UK’s unicorn status 🦄 . 🚀 This was followed by a brilliant panel discussion featuring Markel’s very own Joanne Sykes, Sam Rix and Mark Lowther covering key topics such as tech industry concerns, cybersecurity, and they also spoke about the impressive valuation of the UK tech sector, which currently sits at £1.1 trillion! 🚀 We were also honored to have the legendary Professor Brian Cox join us to explore the wonders of the universe. His talk highlighted the incredible relationship between space, time, and technology—showing how advancements in tech are helping us unravel the mysteries of the universe - turning complex ideas into something we could (almost) understand! His insights left everyone inspired, and the lively Q&A session that followed was a testament to his thought-provoking ideas. 🚀 The evening continued with a stunning drinks reception overlooking London Bridge, giving our guests the perfect opportunity to network and connect. A highlight of the reception was our interactive tech installations which showcased some of the extraordinary technologies we insure, sparking some brilliant conversations. To EC3, and beyond! 🚀 Back in September, we announced our revamped specialist MarkelTech proposition that was built on insight directly from brokers and tech businesses to create a product that goes beyond insurance, to support tech businesses at every stage of their growth journey. Today marked the official launch event of the new MarkelTech, where we were joined by 100+ of our broker partners in our London office to delve into the ever-evolving technology landscape, and how MarkelTech can protect against the risks that come with that.   ⭐️Our spotlight session with Sasha Qadri, former Sky News anchor, delved into the current booming technology landscape, which is valued at $1 trillion in 2024 and employing nearly 3 million people. The pace of innovation is faster than it’s ever been, but it will never be this slow again - and she reminded the audience that the internet only started to have mainstream use back in 1995, not even 30 years ago! At the end of this century, there’ll only be 2 types of companies, the ones who have embraced AI, and the ones who have gone out of business. ⭐️Sasha was then joined on stage by Joanne Sykes , our divisional director of Broker & ATE, Mark Lowther, our head of financial lines, and Sam Rix, our UK technology manager, where they discussed our deep expertise of the tech sector, our brokers needs, and the technical specifics of our new product. Through our insight work, the biggest issues keeping tech businesses up at night are cash flow, cyber attacks and having sufficient coverage. A huge proportion of tech companies are on standard generalist coverage, not a specialist commercial combined product that comes coupled with value-added services, like MarkelTech, that is a better fit for the risks they face. ⭐️Then, we had the session we were all waiting for, the keynote session with Professor Brian Cox, renowned physicist and BBC science broadcaster! Brian provided his unique, and frankly mind blowing, insight into how science and technology are breaking down barriers and shaping the future of the insurance industry. He shared some incredible photos of space, including one that is just 2 days old from the James Webb telescope, which really put life on earth, and our place as likely the only complex life-form in the galaxy, into perspective.   Stories about the innovative companies that MarkelTech has supported to date, and into the future, set the scene for the post event drinks reception on the 25th floor overlooking the London skyline. These stories really brought to life how important insurance is to navigating challenges across the full lifecycle of a tech business.
