A recent study from MIT Sloan School of Management's Danielle Li shows female employees are 14% less likely to be promoted than male colleagues, despite outperforming them and being less likely to quit. Women receive higher performance ratings, but 8.3% lower ratings for potential than men counterparts. What can make the difference? #Advocacy --- for yourself, for your female colleagues, for your female leaders, for your female mentees. Fairygodboss says it even better than we can! https://lnkd.in/ew9hsyiD? #Selfpromotion, #Communication (#MaleAllies can help!)

Making Michigan the No. 1 state for girls and women in technology! Join us in inspiring and growing women in tech.
About us
Our vision is to make Michigan the No.1 state for women in technology. Michigan’s IT workforce is growing, and there’s a compelling business case for ensuring companies hire and retain diverse employees to fuel innovation. MCWT Foundation’s 130-plus partner companies help fund programs that support this cause. Everything we do centers on inspiring and growing girls and women in technology. We work to broadly reach young girls to get them to consider technology and deeply connect with women who choose the tech path. We spark young girls' interest in tech through robotics grants, coding and website competitions, and summer technology camps. Our 700-plus members stay engaged through eLearning, professional development events, networking and mentoring programs. This work allows us to create a steady stream of women ready to enter the technology workforce, and we support them throughout their professional lives. Partner funding, a small staff, and more than 300 volunteers have enabled us to bring resources to more areas of the state, replicate our summer technology camps and grow our programs. We convene a network of stakeholders—teachers, parents, students, businesses, professionals and retirees—who are committed to seeing Michigan's tech community thrive. Support us in our mission by volunteering, donating, or becoming a partner, or joining our membership. Stay connected here and on our members-only LinkedIn group and Facebook page, facebook.com/MCWTFoundation. Today, we celebrate the remarkable Annie Jump Cannon, born on December 11, 1863. A pioneering astronomer, Cannon developed the Harvard Classification Scheme, revolutionizing the way we categorize stars based on their temperatures and spectral types. Her meticulous work led to the classification of over 350,000 stars, and she was the first woman to receive an honorary doctorate from Oxford University. Cannon's contributions to astronomy not only advanced our understanding of the universe but also paved the way for future generations of women in science. Happy birthday, Annie Jump Cannon! #WomenInTech #WomenEmpowerment #MCWT

On this day, we honor Ada Lovelace, born on December 10, 1815, and often regarded as the world's first computer programmer. Her visionary work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine, laid the foundation for modern computing. Lovelace’s notes on the engine included what is now recognized as the first algorithm intended for implementation on a machine. Her foresight into the potential of computing has inspired countless innovators in the tech field. Happy birthday, Ada Lovelace! #WomenEmpowerment #WomenInTech #MCWT

Today, we celebrate the incredible legacy of Grace Hopper, a true pioneer in computer science! Born on December 9, 1906, Hopper was a rear admiral in the U.S. Navy and a trailblazer for women in tech. She played a crucial role in the development of COBOL, one of the first high-level programming languages, and famously coined the term "debugging" after removing a moth from a computer. Her contributions to programming and her advocacy for women in STEM continue to inspire generations. Happy birthday, Grace Hopper! #WomenInTech #WomenEmpowerment #IAmMCWT
