Yesterday, the MEMA Center for Sustainability hosted its inaugural Sustainability Council meeting, bringing together our MEMA Original Equipment Suppliers and MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers members for a dynamic and collaborative kickoff. The session laid the foundation for industry-wide engagement on sustainability challenges and solutions. Discussions included updates on industry collaboration around Sustainability Reporting and Manufacture 2030 best practices. The meeting concluded with our customer spotlight from General Motors, where Fred Gersdorff provided his key insights into sustainability expectations within the supply chain. MEMA. The Vehicle Suppliers Association, has issued a statement opposing the proposed 25% tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada. These tariffs would significantly impact the U.S. vehicle supplier industry, jeopardizing 930,000+ American jobs, increasing costs for manufacturers and consumers, and disrupting the highly integrated North American supply chain that is critical to U.S. competitiveness. Alongside Jennifer Safavian (Autos Drive America), Cody Lusk (American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA)), and Andrea Durkin (NAM), Bill discussed the impact of evolving tax and trade policies on the U.S. automotive industry—a critical topic as policymakers shape regulations that will define the future of the supply chain. As the voice of the vehicle supplier industry, MEMA remains committed to advocating for policies that support a resilient, competitive, and innovative automotive supply chain.

MEMA, The Vehicle Suppliers Association, sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump congratulating him and Vice President J.D. Vance on their inauguration as the 47th President and 50th Vice President of the United States. The letter highlights MEMA’s commitment to strengthening U.S. manufacturing, supporting the 930,000 Americans employed by vehicle suppliers, and enhancing global competitiveness. Suppliers are vital to the economy, contributing over 2.5 percent of U.S. GDP and supporting more than 4.8 million jobs nationwide. CAR is an independent, non-profit organization conducting industry-driven research and analysis. Long’s addition comes as CAR is making significant changes to its governance structure, including new board members and the appointment of an interim president and CEO.
