Today, the Council of the District of Columbia voted in a preliminary hearing to approve the legislation supporting the public-private partnership between The District and Monumental Sports & Entertainment to transform Capital One Arena.   We are grateful to the D.C. Council for their support of our plan to deliver a best-in-class destination for fans, athletes, employees, and our community at a brand-new Capital One Arena.   We look forward to the final Council vote and thank Chairman Phil Mendelson and Mayor Muriel Bowser for their leadership. We share in their vision and commitment to a revitalized downtown and sustained, long-term prosperity which reaches across each of The District’s eight wards.

This month, MSE was honored to host Charmaine Yemurai Chamboko, a delegate from the ESPNW and State Department's Global Sports Mentoring Program. Currently serving as Secretary General of the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe, she worked closely with her mentorship team at MSE to create an action plan focused on improving athlete welfare and advancing the role of women in sports on a global scale.

Incredible to see the Washington Capitals Street Hockey Extravaganza welcome kids to the world of hockey almost 50 years after the inaugural event! I can’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate the team’s 50th Anniversary season. This event has evolved tremendously since the ‘70s, alongside the Capitals’ commitment to giving back and creating opportunities for the kids in our communities. Sports can play an integral role in shaping our values – I know this firsthand. It’s a privilege for our teams to pass values like teamwork, grit, hustle, and love for the game to the next generation. #ALLCAPS
