Last week, we held a gathering welcoming historian Greg Downs and honoring the memory of Anthony E. Kaye, former VP for Scholarly Programs (NHC Fellow, 2015–16). Downs (University of California, Davis) recently completed Kaye’s fellowship project, “Nat Turner, Black Prophet,” working from Kaye’s notes and early drafts. Thank you, Greg, for your time and insights into this extraordinary project and labor of enduring friendship. #humanities
Tony's and Greg Down's book on Nat Turner was published in August and it's been lovely to see Greg push it out into the world with podcast interviews & presentations, along with reading the great reviews in major outlets. This week Greg gave a talk at the National Humanities Center (photo by Joel Elliot), where Tony worked, which was lovely. He went on to Penn State for a special symposium on the book and Tony. I couldn't make it up there but was grateful for the NHC talk.
