🌍🌱 Exciting News for Cities & Biodiversity! 🌿🌆 Center for Regenerative Solutions is thrilled to announce the development of the first international Urban Biodiversity Accelerator, a multilateral cities-based initiative designed to transform global biodiversity commitments into local action. This program will launch across three continents – Europe, North America and Latin America – to create an infrastructure that supports cities in stabilizing and enhancing biodiversity in ways that support the health, climate resilience, and equitable community development opportunities of municipalities around the world. Center for Regenerative Solutions, alongside partners ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability and Instituto de Investigación de Recursos Biológicos Alexander von Humboldt, will formally unveil this initiative at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16) in Cali, Colombia next week. This event is a critical moment to connect with city leaders, technical experts, and community organizations about innovating the tools and strategies communities need to implement biodiversity protections through innovative and collaborative action. The Urban Biodiversity Accelerator will bring together multidisciplinary teams from cities across Europe, North America, and Latin America in a 3-5 month collaborative program. Together, our communities will foster rapid knowledge transfer and cross-sector collaboration, empowering cities to turn global biodiversity frameworks into real, on-the-ground implementation actions, and drive equity-centered, nature-based solutions that benefit communities. Through the two previous urban nature-based solutions accelerators we have developed in collaboration with partners including Trust for Public Land, Arbor Day Foundation, Urban Sustainability Directors Network, and Green Infrastructure Leadership Exchange, we have found that this peer learning, community cohort-based approach has supported cities to advance their global commitments and local climate goals by using leading-edge techniques in urban sustainability, natural infrastructure management, and the regeneration of living systems to address the climate challenges we face. It is exciting to be on this journey to collaboratively create thriving, biodiverse urban spaces for everyone. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the PLAY Boulder Foundation for making my summer an incredible experience. It was a privilege to serve as a crew lead, working with youth to promote climate action and the importance of tree canopy in our communities. A special shoutout to my amazing crew for their dedication and hard work throughout the summer. We used heat sensors, analyzed, and monitored the data collected, aiming to understand and mitigate the effects of rising temperatures. I'm proud to have been part of this pilot initiative, caring for over 70 trees and contributing to a healthier environment in our cities. Thank you again to PLAY Boulder Foundation, Center for Regenerative Solutions, City of Boulder, CAPA STRATEGIES, LLC, and Boulder County for their support and collaboration. I look forward to seeing the lasting impact of our work in the future! #Climateaction #Forestrycorps #Sustinability #Trees #Urbanheat
