The Naval War College Foundation (NWCF) was deeply saddened by yesterday’s passing of ADM James R. Hogg, USN (Ret.). A life member of the Foundation and a Senior Advisor to the staff, ADM Hogg dedicated his illustrious career to the service of our great Nation. Over 35 years of active duty, his sea commands included a guided-missile cruiser, two destroyer squadrons, and a cruiser-destroyer flotilla. He commanded the U.S. Seventh Fleet from May 1983 to March 1985. His staff service included assignments as Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Personnel, Director of Military Personnel Policy, and Director of Naval Warfare, where he worked in the areas of military requirements and acquisition. ADM Hogg was a great leader, warfighter, scholar, and mentor, and his impact on the campus of the U.S. Naval War College will never be forgotten. Earlier this month, the Naval War College Foundation (NWCF) had the privilege of hosting The Honorable Carlos Del Toro, the 78th Secretary of the Navy, at a special reception held at Quarters AA, the residence of U.S. Naval War College (USNWC) President RADM Darryl Walker, USN. Secretary Del Toro visited Newport to participate in the USNWC's Women, Peace, and Security Symposium. The memorable evening brought together NWCF trustees, members, and several USNWC leaders, further reinforcing the shared commitment between the NWCF and USNWC to advancing Professional Military Education for leaders across the U.S. and around the world. A particularly special moment came when USNWC Provost Dr. Stephen J. Mariano, USA (Ret.), re-administered the Oath of Office to his daughter, Alaina Mariano, upon her promotion to Major in the U.S. Army. Congratulations, Major Mariano!
