The Burnsville Rotary supports dozens of nonprofits that make the world a better place. We can distribute grants to organizations because of the community's support at our fundraising events, like the upcoming Burnsville Uncorked wine tasting on November 14th at the Ames Center. One wonderful organization receiving funding from the Burnsville Rotary is Neighborhood Forest. They aim to give every child "the priceless joy of planting and watching trees grow." Their effort has spanned across all 50 states and has made a significant impact on our environment. They sent us this fantastic reel to show us what our support means. At Neighborhood Forest, we're tackling tree inequity where it matters most. Did you know that 92% of urban low-income neighborhoods have less tree cover and are about 3˚F hotter than their higher-income counterparts? (USDA). Neighborhood Forest is addressing tree inequity and combating the Urban Heat Island Effect by planting trees through the hands of children in low-canopy communities all across North America. Over 50% of our participating institutions are in urban / low income / Title I communities. Thanks to the Tree Equity Score Map by American Forests we can see how we are creating impact where it’s needed most.
