Locus Celebrates Black History Month: Dr. Oluwami Dosunmu-Ogunbi, PhD In honor of Black History Month, Locus celebrates leadership and innovation in robotics, engineering, and science. This week, we highlight Dr. Oluwami Dosunmu-Ogunbi, who, in 2024, became the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Robotics from the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on bipedal locomotion and control systems for underactuated robots, contributing to significant advancements in robotic mobility. As we reflect on history, we also celebrate the Nigerian-Americans who are shaping industries, breaking barriers, and making a lasting impact in the U.S. From 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 to 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 to 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀, Nigerian-Americans have played a pivotal role in driving progress across various sectors. They carry the legacy of excellence, blending heritage with ambition to inspire the next generation. Celebrate with us some Nigerians blazing it in the United States below Tariye Gbadegesin: She is a Nigerian-American businesswoman and corporate executive who is the chief executive officer of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), effected from the first of March 2024. It is also notable to say she is the first African woman to serve in this role. Wally Adeyemo: He is a Nigerian-American Attorney and the first black to hold the position of Deputy Treasury Secretary during President Joe Biden's tenure. 𝗔𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝗢𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗶 is a Nigerian-American lawyer and investment banker. He was the former head of global investment banking at Credit Suisse First Boston before being promoted to Chief Client Officer and Executive Vice Chairman. He has recently been appointed by OpenAI as one of their Board of Directors Wemimo Abbey: He is a Co-chair of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) Director Circle. He also founded Esusu, a platform that empowers renters to build credit through rent payments, offers property management analytics, and provides rental assistance for financial stability. 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗶 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘄𝘂: She is a Nigerian-American entrepreneur, she was nominated for 30 under 30 by Forbes for her distinguished retail site called Zuvaa. Anie Akpe: Annie Akpe is a business professional and entrepreneur with more than 25 years of experience in the banking industry.
