Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition Hosts a “Sell Out” Crowd To Drive Awareness About The Trades Saratoga Springs, NY — The Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition recently held a highly successful membership mixer at Saratoga National, drawing a full house of trades professionals, supporters, parents, and community members. The event highlighted the importance of raising awareness about career opportunities in the construction trades, featuring compelling stories from three parents whose children have benefited from the Coalition’s outreach programs. “By collaborating with local schools, businesses and legislators, we aim to educate and promote the trades as a viable and rewarding career option for the next generation” said Doug Ford, the President of the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition. One of the parents, Ramon Dominguez, shared their experience: “The support and resources provided by the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition helped my child understand the vast opportunities in the trades. They’ve now found a fulfilling career path, thanks to the Coalition’s programs and connections." The event was made possible through generous sponsorships from Andersen Windows & Doors, LeChase Construction, Degraff – Bloom Custom Home Builders, and Curtis Lumber Co. Plenty of people bemoan the lack of labor in the trades, but not many are doing something about it. That sentiment can’t be said about Pam Stott, executive director of the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition (NCTWC) and fellow co-founder, Doug Ford, VP at Curtis Lumber. The 501c6 organization was formed late in 2023 but began as just a task force about seven years ago. The group arose from ongoing discussions held at Saratoga Builders Association meetings that always seemed to center on the biggest, most persistent issue each member faced: “How can we get more workers?” https://lnkd.in/gApj6t2F

We’re having a great week at Camp! It’s a good sign that all the girls come back every day for more - they love it! Here are a few photos of the many activities and builds the girls have been engaged in: toolbox build, sawhorses, Pallette tour of their asphalt plant and stone quarry, Witt Construction tour of two homes under construction, building a geometric puzzle, charcuterie board, and Viking chairs. Each day the skills are a bit more advanced and require many learned from the previous days’ lessons. Today their final project is vertical garden builds and tomorrow the week will culminate with Construction Olympics!

Day 1 of "Girls Summer Construction Camp" was a huge hit!

Empowering Middle School Girls Through Construction Summer Camp   Saratoga Springs, NY July 16, 2024 – The Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition in conjunction with Whitbeck Construction, and WSWHE BOCES proudly announces its inaugural Construction Summer Camp for middle school girls, aimed at breaking down gender barriers in the construction industry and fostering a new generation of empowered builders.   “By collaborating with local schools, businesses, and legislators, we aim to promote the trades as a viable and rewarding career option for the next generation”, said Doug Ford, the president of the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition.   The camp is set to take place on July 22-26 at the Whitbeck Construction Education Center, 4728 Route 50, Gansevoort NY. The girls will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and learn how math, technology, science and design apply to construction. They will tour homes under construction by Witt Construction, and also tour the Pellette Stone Corporation Quarry & Plant.   The camp will conclude on Friday July 26 with a “Construction Olympics” followed by an opportunity for the students, parents, industry partners, and the media to hear from Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner and others on this unique summer camp starting at 11:30am.   About Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition www.NCTWC.org : The Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition’s mission is to educate, inspire and connect people in pursuit of rewarding careers in the trades, driving economic growth while building and sustaining our communities. The Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition held a vertical garden build on May 3rd to expose young women to the great options the construction industry offers. Whitbeck Construction lead the project with 17 female students from local schools participating. The event was sponsored by the Annmarie Mitchell Legacy Fund, a foundation dedicated to assisting women pursuing careers in construction. Campers will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and learn how math, technology, science, and design apply to construction. They will tour local businesses and contraction sites. The camp culminates in a Construction Olympics. Building projects include: tool boxes, dog houses, garden boxes, and bird houses. The Construction Summer Camp is open to middle school girls who are entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the 2024-25 school year. No prior construction experience required. Spaces are limited, so interested parents and guardians are encouraged to register their daughters early to secure their spots.
