Rebecca Murphy of our team at the Northern Virginia Regional Commission oversees our Clean Water Partners program. As such, Rebecca has put together a great deal of information to help protect the environment through the smart use of salt during the winter weather months. As winter sets in, homeowner associations (HOAs) and civic associations face the important task of ensuring residents' safety while maintaining property values and minimizing liability. A key part of winter maintenance involves managing snow and ice, but this doesn’t just mean clearing sidewalks and roads. It also requires a strategic approach to salt management—one that protects both people and the environment. HOAs and civic associations can take a number of proactive steps to manage salt use wisely and minimize its negative impact on the environment, infrastructure, and community health. To assist our HOAs, Civic Associations and residents, NVRC has published a number of maintenance best practices and tips to help reduce the amount of salt used. It only takes one teaspoon of salt to permanently pollute 5 gallons of water. Salt seeped into the environment can: - Raise sodium levels in our drinking water and increase treatment costs. - Harm fish, plants and other wildlife. - Corrode vehicles, roads, bridges and parking lots. I have attached a flyer which we are distributing to the HOAs and Civic Associations in our region. Please feel free to share the information as well.

The Northern Virginia Regional Commission NVRC was pleased to host a webinar with itselectric a curbside electric vehicle (EV) charging company. Many thanks to Shannon Dulaney for presenting to the group. A little bit about It's Electric: Millions of drivers don't have access to garages/driveways, and cannot transition to electric vehicles due to the lack of public charging. It's Electric accelerates the adoption of EVs with a scalable and simple Level-2 curbside charging solution, ensuring that every community has access to clean, sustainable transportation options. Their "behind the meter" approach simplifies the installation process by eliminating the need for utility coordination. Through partnerships with cities nationwide, they manage the installation, operation, and maintenance of chargers -- at no cost to municipalities or building owners. And they are the first in the country to offer EVSE hardware with a detachable cord, keeping streets clutter-free when the charger is not in use. Video below includes link to the presentation. https://lnkd.in/eSN4CF3R
