Inconsistent sleep can be as harmful as not getting enough sleep. If some nights you're getting 7-9 hours and other nights you're sleep-deprived, it's time to adopt a structured schedule. A recent study found that irregular sleep patterns increase the risk of type 2 diabetes by 34%. Consistent sleep is crucial for preventing and managing chronic conditions. https://lnkd.in/ek27iCjQ

The brainwashing we all need! Nope not a clickbait line but one of the many wondrous benefits of sleep. This one is amazing to visualize. While you are sleeping, cerebrospinal fluid flows through the brain and clears out toxins through a series of channels that expand during sleep. Yet, chronic sleep disturbance impairs this process, leading to a build-up of these amyloids over time causing sticky plaque on the brain. This has been linked to impaired cognitive functioning and Alzheimer’s Disease. Deep, restful nighttime sleep is critical to ensure the body and brain are able to reset, renew and power back up in the morning so you wake up to a brighter world.

Our very own Frances Thorndike, Ph.D., VP of Medical & Scientific Affairs, recently had her perspective published in Health Affairs in response to Anika Kumar and colleagues’ research into prescription digital therapeutics. Frances agrees with the authors that evaluating evidence and inclusivity is critical and shares her direct experience with the pivotal trials for FDA review of the prescription digital therapeutic for chronic insomnia (Somryst), now a part of Nox Health. This research includes comprehensive race and ethnicity data and shows that digital therapeutics can provide accessible, evidence-based care to ameliorate the public health crisis. Read her perspective here: https://hubs.la/Q02C_gjN0 as well as the authors reply: https://hubs.la/Q02C_gKc0
