Building the Marketplaces of the future

Gavel Time D-Day! Getting Ready to Ring the #NYSE Bell Today! Your friendly neighborhood marketplace enthusiast will be gracing the podium (and hopefully not tripping on the way up) at the New York Stock Exchange to ring The Closing Bell later today! This prestigious ceremony marks the 25th anniversary of my book, "Capital Market Revolution!" In it, I championed the power of marketplaces and a more transparent financial system. Seems like the message resonated! Huge thanks to the NYSE for recognizing this milestone, and to the amazing Exchange Invest community! Stay tuned for updates! & A fun fact - for The Closing Bell - it's campanology first followed by three strikes with the gavel to close the trading session… Tune in to the NYSE feed or your preferred cable TV channel to watch me at 1600 EST today! #TheClosingBell #CapitalMarketRevolution #ExchangeInvest #Fintech #Marketplace

Intercontinental Exchange & The New York Stock Exchange

On the day before July 4 celebrations, the NYSE welcomed the United States Coast Guard ring our Opening Bell. Watch all the festivities in our comprehensive NYSE TV coverage at the link below. CAPT Jonathan Andrechik, USCG, Commander, Coast Guard Sector New York, served as our Bell Ringer. Capt. Andrechik assumed command from another friend of the NYSE, Rear Admiral Zeita Merchant, USCG ⭐️ ⚓️ Merchant, the first African American woman to attain that rank in the Coast Guard's 233-year history. When Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf Coast in 2017, packing winds of 130 MPH, Capt. Andrechik directed the USCG response, helping to rescue more than 7,500 flood victims in the Houston area. Today, Capt. Andrechik oversees 1,000 Coast Guard personnel, from Sandy Hook to the south through Saugerties to the North. The sector covers 6,000 square miles, including waterways moving hundreds of billions of dollars in cargo and tens of millions of passengers annually. July 4th tests the Coast Guard, like February 18, 1952, amid a ferocious gale, when S.S. Pendleton broke in two near Chatham with 41 souls aboard. The Coast Guard saved most of her crew, surely one of its finest hours. It's all in a day’s work for “the Coasties,” since its formation in New York City on August 4, 1790, when President Washington signed the Tariff Act at the recommendation of Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton. Last year, I spent a day at Coast Guard Base Miami Beach and aboard its Sentinel Class cutter Kathleen Moore, named for the 72-year light house keeper of Rock Harbor Light on Long Island Sound. Off the coast of Miami, watching training on drug interdiction and maritime rescue from a 33-foot response boat and an MH-65 helicopter, I got a small taste of each of the 11 missions of the United States Coast Guard. When you look out at sailors and jet-skiers enjoying a holiday weekend in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, you wonder: What are the bigger stakes involved, beyond making sure everyone enjoys the splendor of our waters and gets back to shore safely? In a larger sense, the 43,000-person active-duty Coast Guard, 8,000 reservists, and 30,000 auxiliarists safeguard the efficient movement of maritime commerce, valued at over $5 trillion annually. And in time of national disaster, as on 9/11, when all the bridges and tunnels to Manhattan were closed, Coast Guard personnel directed the safe evacuation of more than 500,000 people in less than 8 hours. George Washington and Alexander Hamilton knew what they were doing 234 years ago when the Tariff Act authorized the construction of 10 cutters under the control of the Treasury Department. From then, to now, and through this coming holiday weekend, when stranded sailors and swimmers will surely issue a few distress calls for your search and rescue services, our fellow citizens have two words for the Coast Guard's work above all others: thank you!
