Another win for the OGS Creative Services team within Media Services who won two awards at the Association of Marketing & Communication Professionals' MarCom ceremony held at Proctors Collaborative's Proctors Theatre in Schenectady. They took home the winning statue for Printed Materials for their collaboration with the New York State Office of Victim Services on the plain language redesign of their compensation handouts. They also won in the Integrated Marketing Campaign category on behalf of New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation for their Rowan Goes for a Ride: A Bodhi Beaver Aventure water safety project. This special project included a video, a full marketing campaign, a book, and a fly-over at Jones Beach during the summer. Congratulations, #TeamOGS Creative! We already knew you were the best in the business, but now we’re proud to share it with the world. Check us out in Times Union Media Group's “Seen”: https://lnkd.in/gBsAv5Ve

New York State Office of Language Access Executive Director Margarita Larios recently joined Michael J. Mulé from the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Civil Rights, Kenneth Lo from the NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs, and Javier Moreno-Rivero, PhD from John Jay College (CUNY) for the John Jay College of Criminal Justice symposium on “Government Perspectives into Language Access.” There, she presented an overview of New York State’s nation-leading Language Access Policy, codified by Governor Kathy Hochul in 2022. Under the law, New York State agencies who provide direct services to the public are required to: 🔸 Offer interpretation services in any language 🔸 Translate vital documents into the top 12 languages spoken by New Yorkers with limited English proficiency. Over 800 languages and dialects are spoken in New York State, and there are 2.5 million New Yorkers who don’t read, speak, or write English very well. The New York State Language Access Law ensures that all New Yorkers can access government services and benefits, no matter how well they communicate in English. Thank you John Jay College (CUNY) for organizing the event and the opportunity to discuss the importance of Language Access services. Last week, OGS welcomed guests to the Empire State Plaza for two days of all things procurement at #GOVBUY2024! We connected with colleagues from around the state and businesses from all over the country to unite behind one common goal: to deliver services and products that provide the best outcomes and value to all New Yorkers. As OGS Chief Procurement Officer Dhanraj Singh, LLM, MBA, MSc, FPA expressed, "This event is not just an opportunity to learn and network but a chance to build partnerships that will drive future success for our procurements, communities, and the citizens we serve." Of course, an event of this magnitude would not be possible without the hard work and support of so many. We'd like to issue a special thanks to Commissioner Jeanette Moy and Deputy Commissioner of Shared Services Moses Kamya, PhD for their thoughtful and inspiring opening remarks. And also take this moment to express our gratitude to all the exhibitors, presenters, and attendees who helped make this year's GOVBUY event an outstanding success. Starting with an enormous thank you to everyone on #TeamOGS and the following programs who were instrumental in organizing this event: Procurement, Finance, Business Services Center, Convention Center, Media Services, Plaza Operations, Parking Management, Resiliency & Sustainability, Office of Business Diversity, Office of Language Access, and Design & Construction. Behind the scenes, OGS is a community of caring professionals whose excellence and expertise shine through in all they do. And thank you to our government partners, professional organizations, and preferred sources for your participation: NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, New York Power Authority, NYSERDA, Office of the NYS Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Empire State Development, NYC Economic Development, NYC Mayor's Office of MWBE, NYC Department of Design and Construction, Battery Park City Authority, Metropolitan Transportation Authority, New York State Inspector General, DASNY (Dormitory Authority - State of New York ), NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets , New York State Workers' Compensation Board, New York State Department of State, NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports, New York State Department of Labor, County of Rockland, GSA, National Association of State Procurement Officials, RFxPremier, NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement, UPPCC - Universal Public Procurement Certification Council, Procurated, eBridge, Civic Initiatives, ASiBuy, LLC, NERA, CorCraft, New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc. (NYSID), and NYSPSP. We enjoyed a stacked program with experts happy to share their professional knowledge with everyone, no matter their level of expertise. From using centralized contracts to reverse auctions to ethics to certifications to sustainability to language access and so much more, what was your favorite key session? We look forward to welcoming you back next year for #GOVBUY2025!

You can't manage what you don't measure. As part of our 5-year strategic plan, NYS Office of General Services has been working to infuse data into all aspects of our operations and decision-making. We are building performance dashboards that help us to provide better services to our customers, understand our challenges, and ensure that Governor Hochul's priority initiatives are on track. #TeamOGS was charged with building EV charging infrastructure, an essential part of transitioning New York State’s light-duty fleet to all-electric by 2035. Following Governor Kathy Hochul’s Executive Order 22 “Leading by Example,” OGS is proud to spearhead the ZEV conversion directive. We've centered our work to advance the EV transition around data. Demonstrating our commitment to making state government operations more sustainable and transparent, the public can now view data on ZEVs in the State fleet and on State-owned charging ports through an online ZEV dashboard. 135 charging ports are currently active and 600 more in the design or construction phase: https://lnkd.in/ep2bbEwB Thank you to the outstanding efforts of our team members Emily Rubenstein, Julie Takakjian, Thomas Nitido, Moses Kamya, PhD, James Sammons, and more for participating in these important discussions, incorporating data into our decision-making, and helping to move the State and industry towards a more sustainable future.
