Becky Gellert has been a Health Advocate in our Head Start program since September of last year, having served our Liverpool and Genesee classroom sites as well as some of our collaboration organizations. Her co-workers throughout these locations agree that the qualities that help her excel in this role include her work ethic, and the knowledge and expertise that she brings from her previous extensive daycare experience, and the many little things she does to lift people's spirits. Incorporated in 1968, PEACE, Inc. is a non-profit community-based organization with the mission of helping people in the community realize their potential for becoming self-sufficient. PEACE, Inc. believes in the strength of the human spirit and is dedicated to changing lives by teaching people how to help themselves and support those around them. To this end, PEACE, Inc. provides a continuum of services for the entire family from infants to the elderly. The majority of individuals we serve have incomes placing them at or below the Federal Poverty Guidelines. PEACE, Inc. is Onondaga County’s federally designated Community Action Agency. As part of the national network of Community Action Agencies, PEACE, Inc. seeks to help people become more self-sufficient by strengthening families, improving the conditions in which people live, encouraging people to own a stake in their own community, and developing partnerships with other organizations, businesses, and individuals to support these efforts. PEACE, Inc. receives funding for its programs and services through a variety of federal, state, and local government sources, as well as from many foundations and corporations. PEACE, Inc. offers programming and training to provide our families with the necessary tools and skills to move from poverty to self-sufficiency.

Brittany Young has been a Family Worker at our Merrick Head Start / Early Head Start site for three years as of this month. She was nominated for this award for all of the ways she consistently brings positive enthusiasm to not only her case management duties, but also when assisting her co-workers in many ways such as covering classroom breaks, filling in as a school bus monitor, and in particular helping with technology issues -- while also managing an additional caseload due to our current shortage of Family Workers. PEACE, Inc. is thankful for our partnership with FOCUS Greater Syracuse, Inc. and the support of Central New York Community Foundation in hosting a Whole Family Summit Last Week. Most importantly, thank you to the more than 100 CNY Community leaders, Direct Service Staff, Parents, and more who created a simply electric environment.
