America's grassroots lobby for historic preservation.
About us
Preservation Action is a 501c4 nonprofit organization created in 1974 to serve as the national grassroots lobby for historic preservation. Preservation Action seeks to make historic preservation a national priority by advocating to all branches of the federal government for sound preservation policy and programs through a grassroots constituency empowered with information and training and through direct contact with elected representatives. The Preservation Action Foundation (founded as Center for Preservation Initiatives) was established as a 501(c)3 to be the educational and charitable vehicle of Preservation Action (PA). PAF promotes understanding of federal policies and programs that affect heritage, develops educational resources, and inspires and informs the next generation of preservation advocates.

Our recent letter, along with the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers, National Trust for Historic Preservation, American Cultural Resources Association (ACRA), and the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions, requests supplemental disaster relief grants from the #historicpreservationfund and adjustments to the #HistoricTaxCredit to help rebuild in the affected areas. During our recent Live Auction and Fundraiser in New Orleans, Preservation Action was honored to recognize one of city's biggest preservation advocates, Patty Gay, with the Nellie Longsworth Award for Outstanding Leadership in Preservation Advocacy. In addition to being a longtime Board member of Preservation Action, Patty was a founding member of the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans and served for nearly four decades as the Executive Director, helping to make the organization one of the country's premier historic preservation organizations. Patty's impassioned and tireless advocacy helped preserve the places that make New Orleans special and advanced the historic preservation movement around the country. Congratulations Patty!
