Congratulations to Public & Government Affairs colleagues Nikole Wong and Ryan Lim for publishing a chapter in "Crisis Communication Cases from Asia: A Cultural Approach.” Their case study, “Environmentalists Rally Against MNC Over Radioactive Waste,” explores how a company’s role within Malaysia’s political and economic landscape helped it navigate a crisis sparked by activist movements, including environmental groups. Their research and analysis focus on how socio-cultural factors—media, culture, and activism—interplayed with politics and economics to shape the outcome. Congrats Nikole and Ryan for making your Edelman colleagues and joint alma mater, SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business Business, proud! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eqSuYAeQ

The House and Senate are in session this week prior to Thanksgiving recess next week. Only 15 legislative days remain for the 118th Congress—an incredibly short period to complete its unfinished business. Congress needs to complete the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and intends to take up a disaster supplemental that addresses damage from recent hurricanes and wildfires. Catch up on all the Congressional happenings this week with the latest In Session writeup from Public & Government Affairs at Edelman. https://lnkd.in/e5kV_tzi

Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba secured a second term following a historic runoff vote on Monday, reflecting Japan's shifting political landscape. The ruling LDP coalition lost its majority, with opposition parties split on key issues. The DPP holds the balance of power and hints at policy collaboration, especially on economic initiatives like the "annual income barrier" for part-time workers. On the foreign policy front, Ishiba faces new challenges with President Trump's return, potentially impacting Japan-US defense and trade strategies. Read EGA Japan’s insight on how this outcome will impact Japan’s political, economic, and business environment, especially businesses employing part-time workers or reliant on international trade. https://lnkd.in/ehiub2iC
